How a solar storm two years ago nearly caused a catastrophe on Earth
Washington Post ^ | July 23, 2014 | JASON SAMENOW

On July 23, 2012, the sun unleashed two massive clouds of plasma that barely missed a catastrophic encounter with the Earth’s atmosphere. These plasma clouds, known as coronal mass ejections (CMEs), comprised a solar storm thought to be the most powerful in at least 150 years. “If it had hit, we would still be picking up the pieces,” physicist Daniel Baker of the University of Colorado tells NASA.

Analysts believe that a direct hit … could cause widespread power blackouts, disabling everything that plugs into a wall socket. Most people wouldn’t even be able to flush their toilet because urban water supplies largely rely on electric pumps.

The New Age’ers have to show that the Mayan calendar was pretty darn accurate and without the messianic appearance of king hussein, the present era would have come to an end.

My father-in-law had a household with a wife and three daughters. His septic tank backed up. Hired an old guy to fix it.

Guy came back and told him “Here’s your problem - these things with strings!! Ya can’t flush them down the toilet if you have a septic system. Are you a man or not. Get control of these women man!!”

Every time he tells that story I laugh so hard I can’t breath.

I already pee in the yard all the time. I might as well replace the seat on a chair with a toilet seat and do that too.

Right down by the shore and leave a fishing rod down there for something to do.

“If it had hit, we would still be picking up the pieces,”

Hate to break the news to you all but it did happen and we
all died. This is just an alternate reality some call hell
and what we would have referred to as the devil is sitting
in the White Hut trying to figure out how to blame mass
coronal ejections on capitalism and greedy white people.

That incident involved a massive amount of X-ray radiation, on the order of 100 times the strength of any recorded emission from the Sun.

At the time it occurred, I asked of a Freeper who worked for NASA about it.

I was concerned because NOBODY was talking about it.

I said, “what would have happened it the main burst had hit direct on Earth instead of the glancing blow off the edge that we got ? Are we talking about basically being ‘french fried’ ?

All he said was, “yes”.

PSHAW!
Pikers.

Just 16 years ago last November 4th there was a solar storm 16 times as violent.

And then there was that time in 43,012 B.C. when the entire earth almost burned to a crisp. Just missed by 13 a.u.!!!!

Let's not even talk about that time in 812,164 B.C....

We dodged two more bullets recently. One only six months ago, and another one last summer.

“Sun storm: Blast 20 times taller than Earth erupts from sun”
http://www.foxnews.com/science/2014/02/19/massive-filament-erupts-from-sun/

“Massive solar flare narrowly misses Earth, EMP disaster barely avoided”

http://washingtonexaminer.com/massive-solar-flare-narrowly-misses-earth-emp-disaster-barely-avoided/article/2533727

The sun’s been acting up for some time, now. So NASA’s 12% odds are probably on the low side.
