CNN/ORC Poll: Americans don’t want House Republicans to sue Obama over executive actions

A note of caution.

Republicans in Congress and in the commentariat are fed up with this White House failing to faithfully execute the law, as is its constitutional charge. Regarding this administration’s selective enforcement of the laws passed by Congress – ranging from DOMA to DACA, from recess appointments made while Congress was in session to the delayed and selective implementation of the Affordable Care Act – the GOP is foursquare behind a proposal to sue the president over his flagrant abuse of authority.

The public at large, however, is less than enthralled with the idea of suing President Obama. “Based on what you have read or heard, do you believe that the Republicans in the U.S. House should file a lawsuit against Obama, or don’t you feel that way?” CNN/ORC pollsters recently asked the public. 57 percent said that the GOP should not sue Obama while just 41 percent supported the lawsuit.

On its face, this makes little sense when compared to another finding in this poll: a plurality of Americans think Obama “has gone too far” in his effort to extend the powers of the presidency. 45 percent agree that Obama is expanding executive authority beyond its appropriate constitutional limits while just 22 percent say he has not gone “far enough.” Only self-identified liberals, Democrats, northeasterners, and urban residents disagree that the president has exceeded the boundaries placed on him by the Founders. Another 30 percent of respondents believe Obama’s actions are “about right.”

How do you square these two incongruous results? While a plurality may believe that Obama has exceeded his authority and should be reined in, the public may also think a lawsuit filed by already suspect congressional Republicans is the right instrument to accomplish that.

We are dealing with the most risk adverse and cowardly group of Republican politicians in history.

You can bet they are not suing Obama based on deeply held principal alone.

If they are following through with the law suit you can bet it was polled and focus group tested to death before they made the decision to move forward.

This poll is junk

It is, take a look at Breitbart, The residents own advisors are telling him to back off, the reason impeachment. It's the tea party folks leading this, they are pushing their critters in congress, hard. It's having an effect. Write your critter, let them know what your thinking. Just takes a minute.

Obama certainly needs to be executed, although there’s still time for a jury to convict Carter and Clinton, and have them executed for their various crimes.

A civil suit is a waste of time, and does nothing to actually stop the tyranny.

Love the wording.

“Based on what you have read or heard, do you believe...”

Should have read, “Based on what you have heard or read here at CNN, do you believe...”

The low information voter will be the death of us all.

The only person with experience to convict any Government official is Palin.
She should be our next POTUS, then we know for a fact that DC will meet it's maker,
the US. Constitution.

With an approval rating that's at 39% and at free-fall, one has to wonder just WHO this CNN/ORC poll questioned.

No doubt, the stay-at-home government cheese-eaters waiting for their checks.

The rest of us were out busy working for a living and struggling to take care of our families while these MOOCHERS answered a stupid poll.

If they have the grounds to sue him, then Obama can be impeached for the same which is an enumerated power delegated to congress.

Impeach him, already, Boehner, you dimwit.

Dear CNN Communist sympathizers:

America is governed by the Constitution, NOT your propagandist polls!

Obama’s actions are UNCONSTITUTIONAL!!

Suing Obama is appropriate and necessary, ONLY because the AG is unwilling to uphold the law either.

Screw the polls. Lead, do what you believe is right, but don’t put your finger in the air and try to figure out which way the wind is blowing before you decide what your position is.
