Pope Francis and the Vatican have fought against the Islamic persecution of Christians, and this is illustrated by their heroic action of rescuing Meriam Ibrahim, a Christian convert from Islam, from being executed by the Muslim North Sudanese government. This is confirmed by one source that stated:
The Sudanese government allowed the family to leave the country after intense negotiations with the Italian government and the Vatican.
Even though Meriam was married to an American citizen, the United States under the heretic Obama did not take any actions to help rescue her, but instead it was the Vatican, under Pope Francis, that saved her from being killed. She and her family were taken by an Italian government plane (not an American government plane), and were flown to Italy (not America). Tony Perkins, when speaking on the plight of Meriam, and the indifference of the Obama administration, wisely lamented:
What has America done?… Where is the courage in America?
While in Italy Meriam and her family were met by Pope Francis himself who “thanked her for her faith and courage, and she thanked him for his prayer and solidarity” during the half-hour meeting.
This is not the first time the Vatican was instrumental in the rescuing of a persecuted Christian, and in the combating against the Antichrist heresy of Muhammad and its scheme to spill the blood of the saints. In 2006, when a Christian in Afghanistan (under American occupation) was going to be killed for converting to Christianity, it was Pope John Paul II who pushed for Italy to take him in. According to one Catholic report:
Abdul Rahman had become a Christian outside his own country some sixteen years previously and then unwisely gone home and been arrested. It was said at the time that Mr Berlusconi intervened in the case at the personal request of Saint John Paul II.
The same Catholic report suggests that Pope Francis was involved in the rescuing of Meriam Ibrahim:
It may well be this time too that the Pope urged the Italian government to act. That would explain why Meriam was granted not just time with the Prime Minister, but also with the Pontiff.
Another Catholic report also mentions the involvement of the Vatican in the rescue mission, saying:
Meriam Ibrahim, the Christian Sudanese woman who was spared a death sentence for renouncing Islam, has met Pope Francis after arriving in Italy following a diplomatic effort by the the Italian government. According to the Daily Telegraph, the Vatican was also involved in the negotiations.
We at Rescue Christians are completely dedicated to the liberation of persecuted Christians, and therefore it would be to our own eternal shame if we ignored the actions of the Vatican and Pope Francis. It is with this that we say may God bless them for their significant instrumentality in the rescuing of this child of God, who being surrounded by the slaves of Satan, the conniving lion, was delivered on account of the righteous actions of the Catholic Church.
We will never forget the most righteous and glorious actions of Pope Pius XII, who rescued hundreds of thousands of Jews from Nazi death camps, and even to this day, do we see the Vatican making similar actions in the deliverance of Christ’s suffering children, whose anguishes are endured by the Savior Himself.
When Francis does something worthy of righteous reproof, we have not stopped ourselves from mentioning them, but at the same time in such situations many people rase fingers of condemnation not for the sake of righteousness, but self-righteousness. They lift their arms with a seeming appearance of moral rectitude, externally illustrating a feigned piety that mimics the Accuser, Satan, who only looks for the sins, but never the virtues, of a Christian person.
All of the Catholics who rescued Meriam are our fellow Christians. To those who would object to such a statement, ask Christ, “And who is my neighbour?” (Luke 10:29) And then hear the words of Christ when He said:
A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.
And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.
And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side.
But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him,
And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.
And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee.
Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves?
And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.

Be like the Samaritan, and not as the hypocrites, and help save your fellow brethren. As Meriam Ibrahim was trapped in North Sudan, so are tens of thousands of Christians trapped and enslaved in Pakistan, facing death, rape, sexual mutilation and torture, enslavement, and the severest of oppressions.

I'm sure our Muslim president would have preferred to see her killed.
I’m very happy this Christian woman was saved. But I am wondering what the “negotiations” entailed. (Or did I miss that info in the article?)
Fine, that is wonderful. Now how about the Pope going out on a limb for the Iraqi Christians being killed and driven out of their home by ISIS? Do you think he will do that? And what about our feckless “president,” one who has yet to address the Marine in a Mexico jail, never addressed Meriam in Sudan, and has yet to even acknowledge or care that all the American blood spilled in Iraq has been in vain. Has he even once visited his half brother living in Kenya? We have half a president, but a full time feckless buffoon and party animal. So what is new?

They did stay at the US embassy, but it was the Italians who got the family out of the country.
That kind of teamwork is routine.
But like you said, it was us who rescued them and gave them shelter, we just got help ushering them out of the country in a secret operation.
The US embassy initially gave the Ibrahim family shelter and arranged for them to leave, but they were stopped at the airport, and Meryam was arrested again in grounds that the travel papers she had were invalid. It was an excuse intended to insult the US. It was at this point that the Italians and the Vatican stepped in. The Sudanese would talk to almost anybody in preference to the US, but the clumsy negotiators of this administration are neither frightening nor deft. No, the Italians did winkle her out of Sudan.
I wonder how that family is going to adjust to New Hampshire winters...?

After Meriam and her family took refuge in the US Embassy, the Italian government offered help to speed up the process of getting U.S. passports, given its good relation with Sudan, and vice-minister for foreign affairs Lapo Pistelli flew to the Sudanese capital to that end. Two weeks later vice-minister Pistelli accompanied the family back to Italy on a government plane which took off from Khartoum, and they were welcomed in Rome by Prime Minister Matteo Renzi and Foreign Minister Federica Mogherini.
