When Texas Gov. Rick Perry called on President Obama last month to deploy federal troops to help quell the surge of immigrants crossing the border illegally, he urged the president to give the troops “arrest powers to support Border Patrol operations.”

Last week, Perry announced that he was activating 1,000 National Guard troops in response to the border crisis in the Rio Grande Valley.

Because the troops were deployed by Perry and not federal officials, experts said Perry can allow them to make arrests and apprehensions. But will he?

I doubt it. This is all about show and campaigning. He could have done this 2 years ago. He didn’t. What good are troops who can’t stop them from coming.

Perry is a worthless dick! The sooner he’s gone the better.

Announce, loudly and publicly, that border crossers will be shot. After you drop 3 or 4, they’ll slow down drastically.

As people here know, I’m certainly no fan of Perry, but sometimes people do change...we shall see.

As far as this deployment goes - I suspect that nearly all illegals can be arrested for trespassing, if not a lot of other crimes, if caught in the open. There are plenty of non-federal laws that will at least get a file opened up on them.

...obviously prosecution will have to wait until the next president, and then only if a Republican, and then only if not owned by the Chamber of Commerce and Karl Rove.

No arrest powers. they don’t need them. Shoot people attacking the border (they touch the border they die!) and the problem goes away. Why bother arresting attackers?

Once again we see the full power of Gov. Perry at work. If folks are looting after a tornado and the Guard is sent in can they arrest and detain? You bet. Why not at the border?

We should really have a large percentage of the regular Army down there with Air Force support!
