In a campaign swing resembling that of a presidential candidate, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul plans to make a three-day trip across Iowa next week, another indication that the libertarian-leaning Republican is gearing up for a 2016 presidential run.
Paul will be in Iowa from Aug. 4-6. He will make appearances at Iowa GOP offices in Council Bluffs, Sioux City, Cedar Rapids, Davenport and Des Moines, according to a spokesman for his organization, RandPAC.
He will also attend fundraisers for congressional candidates Steve King and Mariannette Miller-Meeks and the Cerro Gordo GOP. The senator will visit the Von Maur Corporate Headquarters and speak at the Westside Conservative Club Breakfast.
Paul’s trip to Iowa — the first state to hold a presidential nominating contest — comes the same day Paul named John Yob, a former aide to presidential candidate John McCain, as his national political director and chief strategist of his Michigan RANDPAC operation.
No other possible GOP candidate for president has been ramping up a national organization like Paul in recent months: Paul has also hired Iowa Republican Party Chairmen A.J. Spiker (and Steve Grubbs) and New Hampshire veteran Republican strategist Michael Biundo.
I only notice Paul when he makes idiotic mistakes. I don’t follow him. He doesn’t interest me, because his mistakes have challenged my core beliefs, and I’m just not interested in supporting him.
Let me ask you this. Isn’t he another “Pull all the troops home and only defend our borders...”, kind of guy?
If so, that is being proven to be a very flawed idea these days, as we watch nation after nation go south because there’s no major player on the stage to keep them in line.
What happens when Russia and China move in to fill the void? Is the world going to be better off with China and Russia being the source of global hegemony instead of the United States?
So many of the areas that have been destabilized...Iraq, Syria, Egypt, Libya, Afghanistan, Ukraine, have been destabilized by US interference. We’ve armed whole groups that are more deadly that AlQaeda. I would have no trouble whatsoever with the US putting an end to overthrowing govs and instead worry about defending our own borders.
WEll I’ll just chalk you down as a person who thinks the U. S. is the whole problem with this old world.

We’ll have a token force within no time, and our Navy will be completely gone. Our air lift capabilities will be gone. Our deterrence effect, completely gone.
Granted we have an idiot in the White House, but granting him exactly what his goal was all along, is no way to react.
I disagree strongly with the policy of arming, training, and financing rebels to overthrow their governments. It is one of the major problems in the world. It’s led to chaos where ever it’s been done.
I did agree with it when the Afghanistan people were fighting Russia. I did not agree with it when Obama backed by McCain and Lindsey Graham did it in Libya and Syria.
al Qaeda is our enemy. The Muslim Brotherhood is our enemy.
Just because three morons endorse flawed policy, it’s not a reason to withdraw to our own borders and leave the world swaying in the wind.
Carter destabilized the Middle-East with his Iranian actions. Reagan came along behind and stabilized the word, and contributed greatly to the fall of the Soviet Union. Would he have been able to do that if our military had been destroyed by Carter and those who don’t want U. S. intervention abroad?
Nothing good is going to come out of this administration, but don’t hobble our nation and future leaders from doing what it right to correct what has gone wrong now.
Steve King is loyal to whoever the GOP nominee will be, even if he disagrees on foreign policy; unlike McCain.
Steve King sent a letter to Karl Rove in early 2004 to stop his amnesty agenda, but he still helped Bush win Iowa.
Rand should endorse Bentivolio in Michigan.
He's a different flavor from the typical BobDoleJohnMcCainMittRomney.
His is a different flavor of conservatism that can carry cross appeal without compromising social conservatism.
He is the closest thing to that elusive "third option" for the "both parties are corrupt so why bother?" people.
I like him and see him as our best shot in 16.
