This evening's sirens were also heard here in Efrat. My son claims he also heard a detonation, but I did not. My wife was at a seminar for dealing with wartime stress, and she was told after the alarm was over that the missile landed in Bet Shemesh, with nobody hurt.

Here is how we experienced it at home. I was reading my oldest granddaughter (age 6) Cinderella for a bedtime story, the younger granddaughter (age 3) listening in. The siren sounded the alarm, so I moved them into my son (age 11)'s room, where we all agreed we'd take shelter. They were all excited and upset, and everything I said ended me in hot water. I told them it would probably pass us by and hit Jerusalem, and they started crying that they didn't want their uncle Yitzie to die. The younger one was worried that a missile had hit their mother in Georgia. Then the elder girl remembered what I had told her about Iron Dome ("a nice missile flies up into the air and blows up the nasty missile") and I was saved. The girls calmed down. The sirens stopped and a few minutes later, the alarm was over, and we went back to finish off Cinderella.

During all this, my aged (81) mother-in-law was sitting on the toilet, contentedly talking to herself, chanting "make pish! make pish!". I went out and heard her, figured she was just as safe in there, and left her to her business.

Later that night, I spent some quality time with my son. We started watching Chaplin's A King in New York, but the lights went out, shutting off our computer with the dead battery. A few seconds later, they went off again as i tried rebooting, and we were left in complete blackness, holding onto one another.

In the pitch dark, I remembered the Fogel family of Itamar, and it occurred to me that the power might have been sabotaged by some enterprising terrorist so they could invade people's houses and butcher them. So I took my son with me into the kitchen, fumbling along and bumping into things, until we reached the drawer where we keep our good knives. Feeling the contours, I provided him with a small straight-edge paring knife, and took a larger carving knife for myself. We were ready to give those terrorists what for, but then the lights went back on, and my wife came home from her seminar. My son was still on fire with apprehension, though, and he ended up going to sleep at about a quarter to 11.

Alone at last, I finished writing page eight of Megillat Esther (I'm a scribe), which speaks of Mordechai's lobbying efforts to inform Queen Esther of the plight of her people, threatened back then as we are today.

This evening's sirens were also heard here in Efrat.

Stay safe. Please know that around the world, many are praying daily for Israel. Many are participating in the "worldwide Shema" at noon PDT every day until Tisha B'Av.

Good time to blow up the mosque on the dome of the rock - blame Hamas.

Might want to think about some better armament and some good flashlights.

Stay safe. Prayers for Israel.

May the Lord who saved the Jews from the schemes of Haman have mercy on His people and save them from Hamas.
