I would be most worried about TB. While Ebola is deadly and contagious, its far more deadly in Africa due to the substandard medical care in the areas where it occurs.

I saw a doc on the news last night talking about how easy it is to treat if you have reasonably good medical care. She said it was basically a matter of keeping the patient hydrated and keeping the fever under control till the disease runs it’s course while preventing the spread.

Right. Thats why we have docs dying of it. If she were talking about cholera, she would be right. She is way off track on a hemorrhagic fever. THey are nasty.... they quickly lead to multi organ failure and death.

There is no medicative treatment; its all about trying to make them comfortable and hydrated.

Hydration and other supportive care reduce the mortality from 90%+ to ‘only’ 60%.

60% mortality is still bad news.

60% of people with Ebola die. TB is very treatable....

That said...maybe 60% of Ebola patients die due to sub-standard care. Maybe with better care...the number goes down??

And many with TB don't follow their treatment guidelines...as treatment is very long. But if I got TB...I'd take all the treatment...for sure. Because it can be cured.

Anyway, I work in the healthcare field...and I'm more concerned about the Hep alphabets than anything.......

FWIW-

Man o’ man, I sure doubt the above doc’s statement. I have read that even with the best medical care, the fatality rate is still 60%.

I’m not sure who you were listening to, but I would take what they said with a grain of salt. It’s true that all you can really do for someone with Ebola is keep them hydrated and treat the fever, but that is because it is a virus, and once you get it, it has to run its course. But Ebola has a 90% mortality rate. It is a hemorrhagic fever, which means the virus breaks down the blood vessels and cells and you start to bleed from your internal organs and elsewhere.
