Thomas Roberts On Why He'd Take Testosterone Despite Risks: 'Live Today, Borrow From Tomorrow'

Latest dispatch from the Department of Too Much Information: Thomas Roberts wants you to know that if diagnosed with low-T, he would take a testosterone supplement "without hesitation."

More surprising is Roberts' reckless attitude. Asked whether testosterone's possible health risks would dissuade him from taking the hormone, Roberts replied: "No. I want to live today, I will borrow from tomorrow." Roberts' startling admission came during today's Morning Joe segment on Time's current cover story, "Manopause," which looks into the testosterone-supplement boom and its associated dangers.

Anyone know what the health risks are?

I ask because I’ve been having some issues myself lately and I will be seeing an endocrinologist soon. It might simply be adrenal fatigue, but it might also be low-T. If that’s the diagnosis, I’m curious to know what the degree of risk with testosterone replacement therapy is.

I’m tired of it being difficult for me to drag my ass out of bed in the morning and having constant brain fog and no energy, but I don’t want to cut years off my life either.

As you get older when you increase T levels there have to be steps taken to guard against the aromatizing of T into estrogenic compounds using some sort or an AI inhibitor (many natural compounds can fill that role) along with something to combat 5 alpha reduction of T into DHT. Again this can be accomplished naturally.

I do all of the above and have had tremendous success. Diet and supplementation is more important than heavy workouts. I have done both and if I had to give up one or the other it would be the heavy workouts. As you age those workouts become less effective and by alone cannot overcome those hormonal imbalances.

In my late 40’s I began to notice my workouts becoming less and less effective. Now over a decade later diet and supplementation have resulted in strength gains and well being I could have never achieved otherwise.
