CIA director apologizes to Senate leaders

WASHINGTON (AP) — An internal CIA investigation has found that agency officers improperly accessed Senate computers earlier this year in a dispute over interrogation documents, prompting CIA Director John Brennan to abandon his defiant posture in the matter and apologize to Senate intelligence committee leaders.

Brennan has convened an internal accountability board chaired by former Sen. Evan Bayh, D-Indiana, that will examine whether the CIA officers should be disciplined, said his spokesman, Dean Boyd.

The agency officers searched the computers without permission for information gathered in the course of a Senate investigation into the CIA's interrogation techniques. The summary of a classified report on post 9/11 detentions and interrogations that accuses the CIA of misconduct is expected to be made public soon.

The CIA inspector general shared his findings with the Justice Department, which has so far declined to pursue criminal charges against the CIA employees, officials said.

They would have been more upset if the girls were dressed tastefully.

And the Senate won’t have to apologize for their spying on the CIA because the Senate has a vote on their budget.

"And the Senate won’t have to apologize for their spying on the CIA because the Senate has a vote on their budget."

The Senate was exercising lawful and necessary oversight power and was ENTITLED to view the CIA files.

That's not spying.

American boys died on Omaha Beach FOR THIS…?

Part of why their battle is so compelling is the idea that the ideas protected by the machine-gunners at the top of the cliffs aren’t as good as the ideas backed by the men running across the beach.

To me, this means the two sides are not nearly as far apart as they once were.

“I’m SORRY”…..???

He should never see the light of day again and there should be 20 people losing their jobs.

MORE.

As far as I know it’s against the law for the CIA to conduct any kind of operations in the US, CIA is foreign only.

The Obama adm was paranoid about who was leaking information, even wiretapped AP for releasing info before he could give his version of events.

More than likely nobody could find the leaker so they put the CIA on it.

If that’s the case, then the order could only come from Obama.

Apologizing for spying, or apologizing for calling them liars when they first accused the CIA of spying in march?

I was watching Charlie Rose (don’t ask) and he and David Ignatius were speaking passionately with furled eyebrows about the current scandal. My ears perked up. Could they be
talking about the border? The botched cease-fire? The IRS? The Clintons?? Brennan?
No. It was the CIA during BUSH’s tenure that had them all worked up. Huh? How do these people function?

Seems like I post this every two months:

Back in the ‘80s, Pat Moynihan suggested abolishing the CIA. I thought he was nuts.

He was right. All it does is endanger good peoples’ lives to get info that is ultimately filtered through political hacks. It’s gone the way of all bureaucracies.

Like him or not, Liddy is one of life’s genuine tough guys. He’s not a snitch or a sell out.

You've got that right. And as you said, Liddy has a sense of honor. He tried to protect Nixon. I recall when Liddy was on the stand, back in the '60s. The bailiff asked Liddy if he "promised to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth".

Liddy answered: "No".

You gotta love a guy like that.

Liddy is a badass.

5 years hard time in a federal prison.

Would NEVER sell out America.

I loved when he would call the WaPo the Washington (bleep).

Sorry he's gotten too old to keep doing his radio show.

But the man is in his 80s.

They just don't make his kind any more.

Spying on REPUBLICAN lawmakers, most likely.

The Big Zero sending the CIA to dig up dirt on his political opponents. . .Chicago style.

Liddy is a badass.

Back in the 1980's, Liddy was touring the country with drug guru Timothy Leary. They would go to college campuses and debate various issues.

I got a chance to see one of those debates. The topic was national defense. When Leary was introduced, the crowd cheered him. When Liddy was introduced, he was booed. Most of the boos were good-natured, but some were not.

When the debate was over, Leary got polite applause. But Liddy got loud applause, and cheers. No boos. Liddy had turned that college crowd around! He was that good.

As you said, they just don't make them like that anymore.
