A German Army brigadier general who recently served with NATO forces in Afghanistan is assuming duties as the chief of staff of U. S. Army Europe, the first time a non-American officer has held that position.

The chief of staff does not command combat troops. He is merely the senior staff advisor to the commanding general (who is an American).

My dad was in North Africa during WWII. He never SAW Rommel but he did get malaria. He survived it but it damaged his heart and he died at 58 years old. WAY too young.

Sorry to hear about your father’s early passing. My Dad was WWII infantry in Europe. We owe them a lot and at least can continue to honor their memory.
