House Republicans will try again on Friday to pass legislation responding to the wave of child immigrants crossing the border.
A day after pulling a $659 million measure from their schedule, Republicans emerged from a conference meeting saying they expected the House to vote on two separate bills Friday to address the border crisis.
The House was scheduled to begin a five-week recess on Thursday night, but members were abruptly called back after rank-and-file lawmakers said the chamber should not adjourn without voting on legislation.
The Senate has begun its recess after failing to approve its own $2.7 billion border bill on Thursday night. Republicans in the House hope that if they can approve their measure, it will give them a political win over the Senate and President Obama.
GOP aides confirmed members are talking about two votes, one on a funding bill and the other on legislation that would prevent the administration from expanding a program that defers deportations of certain undocumented people who came to the United States as children.
Republicans have blamed that program on the influx of unaccompanied children, mostly from Central America, at the border.
Rep. John Mica (R-Fla.) said he expected the votes would be held by evening, though timing is fluid. "I think it'll be over before it gets dark tonight," he said.
The House GOP was set to vote on similar bills on Thursday, and it appears both measure could be changed to mollify conservatives who were opposed to the legislation.
Several conservatives struck an optimistic tone on Friday heading into a conference meeting, saying it was possible their votes could be won if they like the changes they see.
But those same lawmakers said they needed to see language before they would commit.
Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa), an outspoken opponent of illegal immigration, said he was inclined to back the bill if the changes came through to his liking. Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) struck a similar cautious bent.
"We worked out some agreements on things," he said heading into the meeting. "If they put it in the same hands that took Kay Granger's principles...it'll be a problem."

Don’t we already have laws about our border? Why fool around and make more of them that will not be enforced. That’s some goofy ****. Too many politician in the District of Corruption are doing too many “recreational” drugs.
Amnesty or even any hint of it is a deal breaker.
The bill should include two provisions:
1) Deportation of all illegals 2) Secure the border through whatever means necessary
No other provisions required. The whole bill should not be more than two pages long.

If Louis is for it, I like to hope the House can win some points with the voters, though it's clear whatever happens Obama wants to play the "Do Nothing Congress" card.
Washington is WAY underestimating the discontent of mid-term voters and the will of the majority.

Enforcing laws on the books prevents government from growing and obtaining complete control. Their plan is to usher in a new totalitarian regime.
The senate has already adjourned for summer recess. This is just for show now and Cornyn and McConnell and Rubio won’t have to take a position on stopping Obama’a administrative amnesty scheme.

That 1982 Supreme Court ruling is the reason we need Constitutional amendments like the following to try to control illegal immigration:
1. "School attendance: Only citizens, legal residents, those with special student visas can attend elementary, high school, and colleges in the United States."
2. "One parent must be a citizen before a newborn child is given automatic citizenship."
3. Felony: We must finally declare that crossing the border illegally is a felony.
Illegal parents come to the United States for the wonderful benefits that their children can receive, like a quality education and great health care. Can you blame them for making the dangerous, long trip with their young children, or sending their children by themselves with the hope that the United States will automatically let them stay?
I don't understand how a child can illegally cross the southern border one day and automatically be eligible to enroll in public school the next day. That is wrong.
So the Senate can attach their gang of eight amendment. That's what Cruz is saying, that any border bill will be transformed in the Senate. Of course the media doesn't report that little glitch.

Maybe so, but when the Senate comes back it will take this legislation, gut it, attach the Scamnesty Legislation the Senate has aready passed and then ram it thru conference. Regardless of what BOHICA Boehner says now.
It will then have to be voted on by the House. All the rats and some Peter King (NY) type sniveling RINOS will help it pass.
Then we are screwed.
my concern is that when they were all due to leave last night some of the Republicans couldn’t change their schedules and stay...

do we have enough votes still left in Washington to stop Harry Reid and his senate bill on so called “comprehensive immigration reform” whatever that means ???
Tom Cole just made a resolution and for the voice vote it sounded like there were twice as many Democrats there than Republicans..
