Skip to comments.Reports: Cruz Angering GOP Establishment on Way to '16 Run
Posted on 08/02/2014 4:07:20 PM PDT by SoConPubbie
Sen. Ted Cruz has his eye fixed on the White House, and he plans to undercut the established Republican House leadership to help get him there, reports say.
Cruz's latest political target, according to Breitbart, is New Hampshire Democratic Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, who he says "has voted lock-step with President Obama to prevent any efforts to finally secure our border."
But while Shaheen's most likely opponent in the upcoming elections will be Republican Scott Brown, a former senator from Massachusetts, Cruz's choice of key state New Hampshire to make an impression says more about the lofty aspirations of the junior Republican senator from Texas that it does his opposition to Shaheen.
Cruz, an avowed tea party supporter, currently is receiving a lot of the credit, or the blame, for the failure of the GOP border bill in the House, which would have provided $659 million in funding, less than the $1.5 billion of the bill's original price tag, cut back to placate conservatives, and a lot less than the $3.7 billion President Obama was seeking to deal with the crisis of over 50,000 unaccompanied illegal immigrant minors who have flooded the Southwest border, according to the Christian Science Monitor.
With last-minute wheedling, Cruz, who wants to cancel out Obama's 2012 executive action to defer deportation, which he has termed "amnesty," helped to persuade enough conservative legislators to defeat the House bill.
Combined with Cruz's elbowing his way in to the New Hampshire race, and planned visits to another key state, Iowa, his actions have caused the Washington Post to declare, "Ted Cruz is running for President."

Angering the GOP establishment should be the top thing on his resume.
Cruz has my blessing to act in any manner he sees fit, so long as remains true to the constitution and republic.
Blosser must have gone to bed early because he missed the passage of the TEA Party immigration bill last night. Don’t publish old news.
I’m all for the fence as long as it includes a warning that intruders will be shot.
So does this mean they are going to pour out the money in ads to call him “rayciss” e.t.c? The RNC money bags are going to open up vast amounts of cash to smear him?
That’s my boy! Rebel Rebel! Let the Lapdogs lap.
LOL, that is a fascinating picture, and speaks a lot.
(BTW, I stole it, by accident.)
You’re right Travis.
Exactly right and we can believe that Cruz will honor his commitment.
I dont know how it will sell but the NH Dems are using Ayotte’s vote to “prove” the bill wasn’t amnesty.
One good thing, Scott Brown vs Shaheen; is Tea Party vs Ayotte in 2016. Identical issues.
Brown is actually probably more honest on his liberal views than Ayotte. Ayotte would sell out on any number of issues if she thought it would help her advance politically.
Steve King travels to NH a lot as well.
Iowa Radio Host Steve Deace has hosted Howie Carr’s Boston(His show reaches NH) radio show. He’s been good on calling out Rand flip flopping.
...or the RINOs?
...or the RINOs?
...or the RINOs?
...or the RINOs?
...or the RINOs?
Would you happen to know who is the blondie between Cruz and McDumbo?
"Free Republic is here to continue fighting for independence and freedom and against the unconstitutional encroachment of ever expanding socialist government...
We believe in the founding principles with all our hearts and mean to defend them to our dying breath..."
Good...He’s got my vote...I’ll vote for Cruz regardless of which party he ends up in...
I wish I could see that made up photo showing CruZ with TattooZ. Now that was Fine Art.
I hope he runs and if he does I plan on voting for him. But I have to wonder, if he is elected then what does he plan on accomplishing? The GOPe will not be willing to work with him and the Democrats will filibuster and block everything he wants to do. I imagine it'll be very frustrating for him.
And even better, it will put every living congress critter on the record as for or against an actual, all the way, effective border fence. Yea, or Nay, forever.
I’d love to see us separate the GOPe sellout RINOs from the GOP patriots.
An up or down fence bill would do the trick nicely.
Cruz for Senate. 2018!
Cruz could, like Reagan go directly to the American people and ignore the bashing by the Rats and their allied MSM.
And the issue to make a stand on would be:
“Build the Fence. Then we’ll talk.”
If Ted Cruz is elected and undoes everything by executive order that Obama did by executive order, that would be huge. Who could complain?
Hey, didn’t ‘private contractors’ answer the call to bring these illegals north?
The establishment has done very little lately but eat money and poop losses. What I’m trying to say is...too bad, so sad.
Bravo for Cruz! Where is McConnell, senate Minority leader?
He has been AWOL on this amnesty debate.
Agreed. And then put a bounty on the head of anyone successful in coming over the fence. Solves the foreign invasion problem and puts extra cash in the pockets of American citizens. A double good hit for the economy. A Win-Win.
The GOP-elites will quietly dispatch a half-dozen pseudo-conservatives to challenge in the primaries by splitting the conservative elements.
It worked in 2008. It worked again in 2012.
Several of the contenders in the 2008 and 2012 election cycles are already making noises about running again.
Even Romney — who lost to the guy who lost to Obama and who also lost to Obama — has been putting out trial balloons, too.
The only problem is, our current crop of politicians defending this country from Obama and his marxist cohorts need to keep Amnesty from becoming a reality before the 2016 election.
As always the stupid GOPe doesn’t realize who it is that’s keeping this party afloat. Reagan beat back the establishment in 1980 and we need to help Cruz do the same thing two years from now.
Good! The GOPe pisses me off too! They aren’t much better than the RATS!
Raise your hand if you give a flying f* about what the GOP Establishment thinks. About anything.
That’s the poster!
Senator Cruz demands 100% effective control of the Border before consideration of any measure to deal with people already here illegally.
Cruz does not demand a Border fence, of the type demanded by Senator Sessions. He voted against the Sessions fence demand amendment in 2013. The Alabama Senator’s amendment was a demand that an already authorized fence of double layers stretching 700 miles, be actually funded and constructed.
Cruz being honest as he is, since he has never supported such a fence, voted against it.
His voting record on other immigration and Border security measures besides this fence can also be read at the link.
I’m a born and raised Texan. I agree with Senator Cruz and Governor Perry that fencing needs to be used intelligently in certain places, but that much faster deployed and more effective measures need to be used intelligently where they are more appropriate than the Sessions fence.
I read that you along with some others appear to have a caveat in order to support Cruz. You post about it here as though Cruz either has your position on it or that at least he could be persuaded to it if enough people would demand a Border fence via a Cruz candidacy in 2016.
I simply say, look at his record. He is a very smart man. He is totally committed to Border security. He does not support the Sessions fence. He does support fencing “where appropriate” but has made clear the total fence idea is a non starter.
I totally agree with him. The same position is held by FR’s favorite attack target, Governor Perry, re: the Sessions fence. I totally agree with him on that specific issue.
In the past I was harshly attacked for it.
I’m certain I will be again, that is, if anybody cares to waste time and cause needless division by attacking me for it.
So be it.
Really? So, your guiding philosophy is- “If you can be blamed, you’re responsible.” Good grief. Are you a pretender, on this conservative forum?
No, it was not only private contractors.
