What Moron decided to build the CDC in a large city? They moved the Manhatten Project in the middle of nowhere for two reasons: To keep it secret and in case something went wrong it wouldn’t take the town with it.

Remember when AIDS first started and the doctors of the CDC became 'rock stars'... and grants and money flowed like water? Incentives can be subtle.

Then again, part of the Manhatten project - an unshielded reactor - was located under a sports field at the University of Chicago... That worked without damage. This might too. We'll find out when someone starts pointing out hindsight's 20/20...

It started as the center of the fight against malaria in the US. Very reasonable to put it there at the time.

Better question is why the deep south ? They had three other centers apparently. Let me guess, we have a Lois Lerner type running the CDC ?
