A lesson from Down Under (Australia shows how to handle illegal aliens)
PJ Media ^ | 8/2/2014 | Roger Kimball

Posted on 08/03/2014 7:57:48 PM PDT by RightGeek

...Hordes of indigents from Sri Lanka, India, and elsewhere had been crowding on to something that floats and making their way to Christmas Island, if not the Australian mainland itself, and, once ashore, seeking out the nearest welfare agency for their first check. It was not dissimilar to what’s been happening on the Southern border of the United States, except, alas, there is no great body of water to impede those eager welfare seekers slipping into the U.S.

The Aussies, under the enlightened leadership of Prime Minister Tony Abbott and Immigration Minister Scott Morrison, seem to be well on the way to solving the problem. The key is way they call “off shore processing.” The key is nabbing the chaps before they set foot onto your sovereign territory. Do not, I heard Prime Minister Abbott say on television last night, do not get on a boat and try to come here illegally. It won’t work.

Just like President Obama, right? Strong leadership from a man who has his own country’s vital interests at heart . . . (just kidding).

They process them on Nauru. Author suggests we need our own Nauru in the Caribbean where we can park the illegal aliens on their way back home.

Catalina Island. Or Tierra del Fuego —better, I think.

I say we park them about 100 miles off shore on an island that is above water about two weeks per year. The rest of the time the water is about 2 to 5 feet deep.

It will be interesting to see how the Australian method plays out.

Actually, there are a couple of islands which would work out quite well. One is Isla de Margarita and the other is Trinidad. Obviously, Trinidad is occupied but Isla de Margarita probably doesn’t have a lot of people. If the refugees don’t like the environs, we could supply a lot of inner tubes and they could float on over (south) to the nearest country ..... Venezuela.

I've heard that. Wow. That's remote.

I say we park them in Cuba. Yes, the Cubans are already there, but they are communists already. It will be share and share alike. They can’t possibly turn them away. After all: From each according to his ability, to each according to his need - Karl Marx.

1) There are sharks in warm waters.

2) Venezuela, under the bold leadership of late Mr. Chavez and his driver (now President) Mr. Maduro, became the most criminal country of Latin America.

Yes. This solution might not work for America - it's a lot easier to secure Australia's borders than a large land border. But it's also about political will - and we've got a government with that.

The conservative Howard government introduced this process over a decade ago, and it worked then. The number of people coming by boat decreased to almost zero. Labor got rid of it, and it lead to a disastrous increase in numbers again - eventually last year, even Labor accepted it was the only approach that worked. And now we've got a conservative government again, they've made it work even better.

The numbers are basically down to zero now.

Might as well forget about the southern border now since the entire U.S. will soon be a BIG Mexico.

Sometimes life’s a bitch. In the U.S., after all, we’ve had to endure more than 5 years of a raving maniac at the helm. What’s a little warm water and a couple of toothy fish. These slime come from criminal infested countries; they know how to deal with leaders like that. We’re just learning.
