Israel has offered to extend a three-day ceasefire in Gaza which began on Tuesday after nearly a month of conflict, Israeli officials say.
However, unconfirmed reports on social media suggest the militant Hamas movement, which controls Gaza, has not agreed to the extension.
Egypt has been mediating in indirect Israeli-Palestinian talks.
More than 1,800 Palestinians, mostly civilians, and 67 Israelis, mainly soldiers, have died in the conflict.
A Thai national in Israel was also killed.
A senior Israeli official told the BBC Israel had expressed its readiness to extend the truce under its current terms beyond its expiry on Friday.
However, a member of the Palestinian delegation at the Cairo talks, Moussa Abu Marzouk, wrote on Twitter: "There is no agreement to extend the ceasefire."
In his first comments since the 72-hour truce began, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu blamed Hamas for all of the civilian casualties, saying it had used civilians as human shields.
The Palestinian delegation at the Cairo talks includes negotiators from Hamas, as well as members of Islamic Jihad and the Palestinian Authority.
The main Palestinian demands include the end of Israel's blockade of Gaza, in place since 2007, and the opening of border crossings. The Palestinians also want internationally funded reconstruction.

Israeli politicians are rather like American politicians. They need emergencies to keep themselves relevant and the people voting for them so they don't end a problem. They end the immediate threat and leave enough so that the problem comes back. We provided the model in Iraq and Afghanistan, and even further back in Korea. Israeli politicians see what works when we do ìt and do likewise. Hamas is doing the world a favor when it refuses to let them break off the engagement.
Israel has won this battle. The rockets have stopped falling and many of the assault tunnels have been destroyed. However there has been no fundamental strategic change. Nearly two million hostile Palestinians continue to live in adjacent Gaza. Hamas or a successor group aligned to the jihadists will govern. The jihadists will have no difficulty recruiting suicide terrorists. The missiles will become more sophisticated and stealthy. There may be a cease fire but there is no peace or prospect of peace.
Now I wonder just who it was that determined that aspect of the casualties, could it be those truthful boys from hamass?
How do they know that someone killed is a civilain or not?
Do Hamas fighters wear uniforms?
All terrorists are civilians. And in this case, most of the civilians are terrorists.
I guess Hamas doesn’t need more time than that to rearm and reload (and get the kids in the way of retaliation).
“Now I wonder just who it was that determined that aspect of the casualties”
The same people who reported the number of casualties. It can be total fantasy, but fits the agenda like a glove.
No there wont be a prospect of peace.
The only way there will be “peace” is in the old Roman sense - “where they make a desert, they call it peace”
The only way this will be resolved is extermination or removal of one or the other.
These are two populations that fundamentally cannot coexist.
At best, the Israelis can live with it, as they have in fact been doing for 70 years or more. There is no reason this cant continue, essentially forever.
In my old country we have the same situation. Muslims and Christians have been warring intermittently for over 400 years. We have archaeological sites related to this war, beside modern military camps that exist for the sake of the same war.
When dealing with the lieberals of the MSM civilian means good guy, but the correct translation in this case is enemy combatant.
I've got the translation for this one too.
The main Palestinian demands include the end of Israel's blockade of Gaza the right to rearm and kill Jews, in place since 2007 around 600 AD, and the opening of border crossings [all the easier to invade Israel and kill Jews]. The Palestinians also want internationally funded reconstruction somebody else to pay for their war, enough money to live well in Paris, and more money for tunneling/arms/equipment.
The simple solution is to let the group to be wiped out be Hamas, PLO and all their adherents.

The number of deaths is suspect, because we all know Palestinians lie and inflate those numbers and some of them can't even play dead properly.
no, they do not wear uniforms
RE: no, they do not wear uniforms
So, these ‘Civilians” killed may well be Hamas terrorists..
While the Journalists are all pontificating over Gaza, thousands are being slaughtered in Iraq and tens of thousands in danger of being killed in the next few days. Refugees are flocking out of the Kurdish city of Erbil.
Obama’s busy raising funds and blaming Republicans, Kerry is busy being incoherently irrelevant, and our friends in Congress are busy campaigning.
