Russia will ban all imports of food from the United States and all fruit and vegetables from Europe, the state news agency reported on Wednesday, a sweeping response to Western sanctions imposed over its support for rebels in Ukraine.
The measures will hit consumers at home who rely on cheap imports, and on farmers in the West for whom Russia is a big market. Moscow is by far the biggest buyer of European fruit and vegetables and the second biggest importer of U.S. poultry.

That is a chart showing why Ukraine is screwed and there is no chance for recovery, based on a “European choice”.
24% of their total exports are selling in Russia. About 95% of high added value products are part of it’s 24%.
Without Russian exports it is a banana republic, without bananas.

In addition to Ukraine being screwed, let’s note those lists above are from a time when oil was about 15% less expensive. So US imports from Russia (oil) was pricier, until it will be scaled back.
Bottom line: It’s pretty hard to hurt a country that can export crude. There will always be a buyer.

All true, but getting back to Ukraine it is now clear that no sane politician could ever push for a “European choice” unless he is a paid agent.
The resulting economic disaster was so obvious and leaders now are busy to escalate every possible crisis to make populace busy.
Anti-Russian Ukraine makes about as much sense as pro-Soviet, anti-American Cuba.
It won’t perform any better, both politically and economically.

Yes, a buyer but at what price? An article last week said that Russian oil production break even was $101.70/bbl. Today's price on the world market was less than $98.00/bbl. What they lose in price they make up for in volume? Is that the way it works?

Yes, in Kazakhstan they eat horses. They even have a beer made out of fermented horse milk.

Well, Russia is certainly not a single source of rare elements, not to mention these are mostly comes within electronic components and these are Chinese-made most of the time.
