President Obama said Thursday that United States military aircraft had dropped food and water to thousands of Iraqis besieged by Islamic militants on a mountaintop in northern Iraq.
Speaking Thursday night from the State Dining Room at the White House, the president said he had directed the United States military forces to conduct targeted airstrikes on the militants if they moved to take Erbil, threatening the American citizens and military personnel there.
And he said that at the request of the Iraqi government, he had authorized the military to use airstrikes to help provide humanitarian assistance to the Iraqi citizens, many of them religious minorities, who are trapped on the mountain.

How many had to die or be displaced from their homeland before Obama took action? How could he have not known about this crisis?

All ISIS has to do now is run like hell and mix their fighters with the defenseless people on that mountain and they will have captured supplies and human shields.

Then Hussein’s promise of no ground troops will go out the window.
But he is used to that.
From the article, it sounds like they were only planning on providing defensive air strikes for the C130’s making the air drops and maybe to protect the supplies from the militants. It didn’t sound like there were any offensive strikes planned.
At a minimum, they should be providing better arms and adequate ammunition for the Kurds to defend against ISIS who have our weapons and ammo. But they probably won’t.
umm . . . obama doesn't know what ISIS is. He's the only person in America who refers to them as ISIL. More evidence he's one of them, I guess.
Obama will get a bump in the polls.
And he will smile at this.
And general war will come to the Middle East and America.
Why should he send ground troops?
He can say that he did do his best trying to help defenseless civilians but that the situation is such that it is now out of his hands.

Indeed. I also noticed how Obama made a point of letting ISIS know the U.S. would not be getting too serious about fighting anyone in Iraq. How nice of Hussein, huh?
