Things may be going the way of the Hutus & Tutsis here in the US but it is kinda fun to see white libs hoisted on their own petards in the meantime.
After doing some reading, this is mostly about race, but also with a twinge about the terrible economy. Your assessment is about the best I have seen. Seemed like many in the liberal press are uncomfortable about admitting this.

I suspected this was the case. Once non-whites have enough votes they’ll vote one of their own in instead of some white liberal.
There’s a similar situation in Minnesota IIRC. A white liberal woman who has held a state house seat for forty plus years is being challenged in the Rat primary by some Somalian with the backing of the growing Somalian community there.
