U.S. Weighs Military Rescue Mission for Yazidi Refugees

The U.S. is weighing a military mission in Iraq to rescue thousands of Yazidi refugees, a move that risks putting American forces in direct confrontation with Sunni fighters for the Islamic State.

The proposal is still under development and hasn't been approved by President Barack Obama. U.S. officials said the rescue mission is one of many options the U.S. military is weighing after dropping food and water to dying refugees over the past six days.

"People are looking at ways to do something more than just drop water and supplies," one senior U.S. official said. "You can only do that for so long."

Since last week, the U.S. has sought to halt the militants' advance on the Kurdish city of Erbil and to relieve Yazidis trapped by the fighters on a barren mountain range through a campaign of airstrikes and aid drops.

A rescue mission could expose U.S. forces to direct fire from the militant group Islamic State, also known as ISIS, and that is a risk Mr. Obama may not be willing to accept.

On Tuesday, the Pentagon continued to lay the groundwork for a rescue by sending another 130 military advisers to northern Iraq to develop options the Pentagon can present to the president. The team will be made up of U.S. Marines and members of American special operations forces who have expertise in difficult missions.

Why again is the US the only country called in to help? Where is all of Europe?

I'm sure he would have done this a long time ago when it would have been more effective, but he probably just heard about it on the news in the foreign press.

He's on it now, though.

THE [Ø regime] SHOULD NOT BE DISCUSSING THIS OPENLY.

The only reason for the Ø Regime to "discuss this openly" is to float it, in a "Present" kind of way that befits a Pres-ent, and see the reactions. So, by nature this goes public as a cheap way to focus-group how to proceed.

The Ø regime must not act too quickly here, as there are still a few Yazidi still alive. When all, or nearly all are dead, he will swoop into action, rest assured.

Funny, how other things must proceed VERY FAST, snap-of-fingers, pass legislation before it can be read. Funding to avert crisis and collapse. But, for Yazidi, gotta have more dead before acting, so no rush.

I’m for it. Send in troops to extract them, with B52 and fighter bombers glassing the area around them. Not nukes of course. ISIS likes Holy War? Let’s see if they like Holy S#@#

This is what the world misses when it trashes us. Who else could save those people?

More than 14,000 Jews were evacuated from Ethiopia in Operation Solomon in 36 hours.

36 hours and 35 airplanes moved more than 14,000 people.

We could get all of those people out of there. We should’ve already gotten them out of there.

This is making me sick.

Obama is way behind the curve on this. There should have already been a coalition of countries - mostly muslim - to deal with ISIS. Bomb the crap out of them.

Same here.

This is a complete embarrassment and horribly shameful behavior on our part.

Yet, where is the outrage? Why isn’t the MSM losing its collective minds over the issue?

So now do we go into all countries to rescue those the Muslim nations should be rescuing?

Arabs have planes and they have troops...let them rescue their people if they claim they are so tolerant and care so much.

...”We could get all of those people out of there. We should’ve already gotten them out of there.....This is making me sick.”.....

Are you telling me that all the nations over there couldn’t get these people out? Of course they could have and still can.

I don’t want to hear that we have to use our men and our military to remove a people any European nation could do....not to mention the Muslim nations.

The people subject to rescue aren’t Muslims. Why would the Arabs have any interest in them?

Before last week I never heard of a Yazidi. Read up on them, they are like some sort of Zoroastrian cult. So, the ISIS muslims therefore feel the need to behead them. And so, Samantha Powers will have President Ebola give them an all expense paid life in the USA, just like your basic Guatemalan gang banger.
