The head of the Human Rights Committee in the Kurdistan Parliament has warned the international community that the number of refugees in the Kurdistan Region has passed two million. He urged the international community to provide help to those refugees otherwise a humanitarian crisis may not be avoided.
The number of refugees in the Kurdistan Region exceeded two million and the Kurdistan Region needs the help of the international community or refugees might face a humanitarian disaster, stated the head of the Human Rights Committee in the Kurdistan Parliament Soran Omar on his Facebook account.
There are 1,200,000 Arab refugees in the Kurdistan Region based on the latest statistics and reports of UN, said Omar.
The number of Mosul refugees in the Kurdistan Region is about 600,000 as well as 200,000 Sinjar refugees, which means the number of refugees in the Kurdistan Region has reached two million, added Omar.
He has also mentioned that the attempts taken to dismiss or hurt these refugees paint bad Kurdistan Region in a bad light which could result in the cutting of international support for the region in terms of humanitarian help.
In a statement on August 8, the Kurdistan Parliament emphasized that refugees in the Kurdistan Region will be respected and treated based on international principles and laws. If there is any criticism or complaint about the large number of refugees in the region, it will be solved by the Interior Ministry and other responsible offices.
Up to July 2, the number of Anbar, Fallujah, Rummadi, and Baghdad people in the Kurdistan Region reached 1,200,000, added Omar.
He also noted that the capture of Mosul by the Islamic State (IS) militants led to 600,000 refugees from Mosul and Tikrit moving to Kurdistan Region as well the recent 200,000 refugees from Sinjar; raising the number of refugees in the Kurdistan Region to two million people. He believes that there are bad humanitarian conditions among these refugees and a humanitarian crisis is likely to occur.
Obama will only be interested is they are salted with Islamists and can be quickly signed up to vote Democrat.
Most likely they will come to America.
Give them weapons and send them back home to fight for it.
Nonsense. Train and arm them and turn them loose on ISIS. Reports are that ISIS has about 10-20K fighters. If you just found 10% of those refugees who could fight, then trained and armed them, you’d have a fighting force of 200,000 men, ten times the size of ISIS. Hasten the slaughter, quicken the spoil.
Kurdistan is the tolerant, multi-cultural Iraq we wish the whole nation was.
Kurdistan took in the Christians, now they take in the Yahzidi. AND fight ISIS.
I completely agree. I think American air power is going to be needed to prep the battlespace, but the boots on the ground should be worn by those most affected by ISIS. I haven't seen any actual official numbers re ISIS -- aren't they south of 10,000? Properly armed and trained, the Yazhidis and Christians should be able to eventually take down those animals.
amen to that.
Give the able guns, some training and go get ISIL. If you won’t fight for yourselves don’t expect others to fight for you. Not trying to be mean here but it is time for dicent folks to step up and start defending themselves.
