Russian customs reports suspicious substances in Jack Daniels consignment

Suspicious substances have been found in a shipment of original Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey whiskey in the Urals city Yekaterinburg, Urals customs press service said on Friday.

Consumer protection officials had also reported numerous violations in sales procedures for the US product on August 14, the customs service said.

Russian alchohol market regulators Rosalcoholregulirovaniye told ITAR-TASS that bottle labels did not comply with retail sales rules.

Authority press service head Natalia Lukyantseva said labels contained no Russian-language information and did not detail the spirit's origin or aging. Checking of the consignment continues, officials say.

They should send all of the offending Jack Daniels to me for inspection and quality control purposes.

Russia keeps changing the rules on shipments to make it more difficult for external shippers to keep up. Much of FedEx’s business was stopped by a new rule during the olympics, for example.

I wonder...back in the USSR days, it was known to the Eastern European community that Soviet Customs was corrupt, but fair. If you sent something to a relative, it would never arrive. But if you sent TWO of something, ONE would actually be delivered. So, you quickly learned to send two of everything. They could have stolen both items but almost always, they didn’t...because they got stuff from relatives, too.

Same here. If I want a whiskey drink with other favors added, I’ll mix a cocktail. That said, I *was* favorably impressed by an orange rock ‘n rye product called “Slow & Low” that I recently sampled. It wasn’t as tooth-achingly sweet as other flavored whiskies. Some of that stuff seems better suited for use as a nice cream topping.

It might be counterfeit whiskey. The originals could have been swiped and replaced with inferior crap water................

The Russians are still working on the case.

Yup for ease of investigation they broke the shipment down to individual cases and have vowed to investigate one case at a time until they get to the bottom of it.
