Because in a Liberal’s mind everyone should be equal and there should be no moral responsibility. Those who are reckless and foolish in their decisions should shoulder no blame and no stigma for their foolishness. They should be viewed as morally equivalent to those who have attempted to choose wisely and live by higher standards.
