I was hit in the eye with a baseball when I was in junior high school. The ophthalmologist said that if I had not been wearing glasses with hardened lenses I would have lost the eye.

I worked with a guy who was hit with a hard ball in the face near the eye, and the damage was so bad he had to have a metal plate put in.
