They certainly won’t pinpoint where the officer was when he fired. A good forensic scientist might be able to draw probability circles, but anyone who’s ever fired a box of shells at the range knows the empties fly everywhere.

BTW, theyll test the ejection pattern of the weapon, and be able to nearly pinpoint where the shots were fired based on the casing locations.
