England, Spain and France, you mean? Our nation had not been founded at that point. The Founders knew it was going to lead to war, George Mason in particular. They tried to negotiate their way out, however the largely agrarian southern colonies-become-states were entirely too dependent upon it. So, the peculiar institution remained and the war that Mason predicted at the Founding that would tear the nation apart occurred.

...I have been saying this every opportunity I get...but better yet, pay some migrant workers a nominal wage to do the work, for a contracted period of time...

...but to import Stone Age cultures, as chattel slaves...who couldn’t see a ‘permanent underclass’ coming out of that...
