Rep. Elijah Cummings, along with other members of the Congressional Black Caucus, sent a letter Monday to President Barack Obama, urging the administration to pursue changes to local law enforcement structure to prevent more Fergusons, including a federal czar to oversee local law enforcement.
The administration must quickly establish a national commission to review existing police policies and practices, the letter reads. And identify the best policies and practices that can prevent more Fergusons and vastly improve policing in communities across the nation.
In addition to the commission, the letter calls for the appointment of a federal czar within the Justice Department to monitor and oversee local police departments that receive federal funding.
Besides Cummings, a Maryland Democrat, Democratic Reps. Marcia Fudge of Ohio, Steven Horsford of Nevada, John Lewis of Georgia, Gwen Moore of Wisconsin and Barbara Lee of Texas signed the letter, as well as AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka, hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons and actress Cynthia Nixon.
The letter comes the same day as the funeral for 18-year-old Michael Brown, who was shot and killed Aug. 9 by a Ferguson, Missouri, police officer. The letter says Brown is only the latest in a long list of black men and boys who have died under eerily similar circumstances.
The pattern is too obvious to be a coincidence and too frequent to be a mistake, the letter reads, while acknowledging that many facts regarding Browns death are still unclear.
The letter notes both systemic racial bias and the militarization of police departments as dangerous trends and outlines a number of actions for the administration to address, including racial bias training for every local police department under guidelines set by the Justice Department. It also calls upon the Justice Department to set and implement national standards for investigations when police shoot unarmed victims as well as to set, implement and monitor diversity hiring and retention. The letter urges the administration to suspend programs that provide local police with military equipment while authorizing support under existing grants to foster more engagement between local law enforcement officers and the communities they serve.
Just having Cummings name attached to it makes it an idea that should never be considered!
It’s and absurd idea that cannot ever be enacted. If such and asinine idea were to take hold, it would signify that the Federal Government is the Alpha and Omega.
Such a thing coming to pass would be without exception a line that if crossed would necessitate Revolution.
Well, they admired the Nazis, the Soviet Union and the EU, but I had no idea they’d move so far in that direction so fast.
It’s a call for a nationalized police force.
What could go wrong?
To hell with that!
Considering the amount of our citizens who are disengaged from politics outside of the occasional election and taking into account the current demographics, it’s not hard to see why they’ve become so bold.
“acknowledging that many facts about Brown’s death remain unclear”
Democrats have never let facts stand in the way of power grabs.
& those who oppose are racist..
What country do we live in??
Will the brownshirts become a reality if this goes through?
Giving power over law and order to holder is like letting Jesse James run the railroad
- Earlier tonight on “BLAZE” a detailed expose explained how CAIR, etc. conspired with Berry Husseina Ebola (junior) & AG Eric Holder to remove any and all references to Islam, Muslims, Mosques, terrorists from information the FBI used &/or released to the media -
- Now just who claims to be a Christian but can repeat the Muslim Call to Prayer perfectly?
the brownshirts are a reality now ... except for the color of their shirts
Fools! The reason nobody wants to live in Ferguson has nothing to do with drug-addled folks robbing stores and homes, shooting each other, and going through life preying on each other. The reason nobody wants to live there is all the police brutality!
Obama CAN and SHOULD do something about this by doing away with local and state governments once and for all. It’s time he gave us a unified, federal police force with one supreme commander answerable only to him, so that once and for all he can run our small towns as well as he ran Chicago; so he can lead the USA as well as he leads the World.
Just another excuse by black leaders to avoid dealing with the problems within black communities from coast to coast. Easy to go after the cops than deal with black on black killings, the high rate of black teenage pregnancy, and the large number of absentee black fathers.
Bingo. Remember when Der Fuhrer said in his campaign:
"We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives we've set. We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded."
Common Core nationalizes education. The new un-Constitutional and well-armed bureaucracy replaces elected members of Congress. And the new SS will make sure so-called "citizens" don't get carried away with silly ideas about free speech, freedom of movement or anything the new Reich doesn't like.
Of course they can , and will. Opportunistic monsters always will move when the landscape is best. America is at its weakest, therefore look for the wolves to come out of the woodwork.
Powder dry, rations stocked.
the plan is state dept pub 7277, freedom from war. been around a long time.
we are going from phase ii to phase iii currently.
Of course. This police force will be worried about a chain of command relying on the IRS. It is not like a local police defending its own land or business.
The enemy is occupying us and the snitch democrats are helping themselves getting a job on it.
Dress them in white body armor and call them Imperial Peacekeepers.
