Israel Shoots Down Unmanned Drone From Syria

The Israeli Air Force downed an unmanned drone (UAV) over the Golan Heights as it attempted to enter Israeli airspace from Syria.

Forces fired a surface-to-air Patriot missile at the drone, which came from the area of Quneitra - which has seen fierce clashes between Syrian rebels and regime forces.

The Israel Defense Forces told the Associated Press that the drone appeared to have belonged to the Syrian military and had flown accidentally into Israeli airspace.

The IDF said that the drone was identified in Israel's air space and shot down by a ground-to-air Patriot missile. The IDF "will respond to any breach of Israel's sovereignty," Lt. Col. Peter Lerner said.

Here's a video of Raytheon's robotic factory for manufacturing the SM-3 missile (used on Aegis cruisers, has successfully destroyed orbiting satellites).

I'd be willing to bet they're using the same technology to manufacture the Patriot system, or soon will.

This is out on the fringe, but their have been RPV's etc that were given a manned station to test fly them but it is rare. On one of Rutan's creations they did it.

In order to be worth the expenditure of a Patriot missile, that enemy drone must’ve been a rather large target. The next question is — who's supplying them to the Syrians and which side of the civil war launched it? I'll guess the drone was Iranian in origin with Syrian controllers and Iranian advisers?
