Filipino Soldiers Defied UN Order to Surrender to ISIS

Good for them. Surrendering to people who practice beheading religiously is ill advised.

This whole mess is yet another of the innumerable reminders that international forces placed around Israel to absolutely nothing and surrender or run away at the first sign of trouble. That’s why the touted EU initiative to put international forces between Israel and Hamas is a stupid and destructive venture.

The Philippine military said Monday that a UN peacekeeping commander in the Golan Heights should be investigated for allegedly asking Filipino troops to surrender to Syrian rebels who had attacked and surrounded their camp

Gen. Gregorio Pio Catapang said he advised the 40 Filipino peacekeepers not to lay down their arms, and they defied the UN peacekeeping commander’s order. Instead, they staged a daring escape from the Golan camp over the weekend, ending a tense, dayslong standoff.

The disagreement is another blow to a UN peacekeeping mission that has been threatened by an escalation of violence in a buffer zone it has been guarding between Israel and Syria. A number of countries have withdrawn their troops from the peacekeeping force due to rising rebel attacks.

Forty-five Fijian peacekeepers who surrendered their firearms to the rebels last week are still being held by the al-Qaida-linked insurgents.

The commander of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force, or UNDOF, which supervises the peacekeeping mission in Golan, was overseeing talks with the Syrian rebels to secure the freedom of the Fijians. However, Catapang said he would not agree to any resolution of the hostage crisis that would put Filipino troops in grave danger.

When the besieged Filipino troops sought his advice after they were ordered to lay down their arms as part of an arrangement with the rebels to secure the Fijians’ release, Catapang said he asked them to defy the order.

“I told them not to follow the order because that is a violation of our regulation, that we do not surrender our firearms, and, at the same time, there is no assurance that you will be safe after you give your firearms,” Catapang said.

UNDOF did not immediately reply to a request for comment.

He’s quite right that negotiating with terrorists doesn’t work and terrorists should not be trusted. This is why Israel should not be expected to surrender in the hopes that the terrorists will keep up their end of the deal.

They haven’t and they don’t.

This is old, tried and true knowledge. The terrorists have forfeited their lives. They KNEW that going in.
WHAT a selfish thing they did to their families and friends.

Gen. Catapang is a hero.

Good for them is right. The UN displays the typically internationalist, bureaucratic, and ultimately deadly, mindset of “don’t fight under any and all conditions.” Just lay down your weapons and we’ll talk it over. Somehow, it doesn’t enter their minds that if you lay down your weapons, the other side will kill you, take you hostage or enslave you. The Filipinos aren’t that stupid, thankfully.

With the ISIS psychopaths and their history, better to go down fighting.

With these ISIS people, it’s better to try to take some with you, never surrender. This demonstrates the UN is in cahoots with these people.

If I was the Phils, I would say screw you and bring the troops back home.
Surrender to terrorists is about the dumbest thing ever.

Well, I guess that's a nice way of putting it.

The Philippine government regularly fights the Muzzies in the southern part of their country on the island of Mindanao. These soldiers know that surrendering to them is an insane choice.

They would all be dead if they listened to the UN.

The UN is useless and I certainly don’t trust their motives.

Catapang means, roughly “the brave”.
That’s just his name. Typical descriptive Tagalog name.
Some Filipinos retain the old native names, generally the descendants of landowners that actually had recorded names. The rest have Spanish names that were assigned by decree.

Would this indicate that if UN Peacekeepers were to ever be deployed in the US, they would be ordered to surrender to American *revolutionaries*?

Personally, I have always thought that any UN forces deployed here would either refuse to leave their HQ or surrender if challenged.

Hey, you know, if we could get ISIS to fight their way up Pennsylvania, maybe Obama would symbolically surrender to them.

"Gen. Catapang is a hero."

I totally agree...it's not often now-a-days to have someone SEE the right path and TAKE it... Everyone seems full of fear of the left.. Political correctness is killing us....

The UN leadership is almost as bad as Obama if they are ordering their soldiers to surrender and face execution. Only a moron would fight for the UN. I’m proud of the Filipino officers who took care of their men despite stupid/evil orders. I’ll bet loyalty just went up in those units.

Surrender to Jihadists that are beheading non Muslims? Why not just tell them to commit suicide?

Saying what else I believe would get my post pulled.

More likely, any UN forces deployed here would be put down where they stand. Invasion by a foreign force is war.
