Gosnell Movie Producers Hire Best-Selling Author Andrew Klavan to Write Screenplay
Life News ^ | 9/2/14 | Steven Ertelt

The producers of the Gosnell movie raised the $2.1 million they needed to make the Hollywood-style film that will tell the story of the gruesome abortion practitioner. Now, they’ve hired a screenwriter to produce the script to tell the story.

“We have some great news that we are excited to share with you,” the producers Ann McElhinney and Phelim McAleer told LifeNews today in an email. “We’ve just signed up the best-selling author and screenwriter Andrew Klavan to write the script for the Gosnell Movie.”

Klavan, whose books have been made into movies directed and starring Clint Eastwood and Michael Douglas, said he had wanted to write the Gosnell screenplay “from the moment I heard it was underway.” He said the Gosnell project was “a great story” but also an important tale to tell.

Klavan said: “This is so much more than a job of work for me. As I’ve begun to get into the research materials, it’s started to come home to me that we’ve all taken on a huge responsibility. The women who were brutalized by this Gosnell monster — they can tell their stories. But all his victims, all those babies — we’ve got to figure out a way to speak for them somehow.”

The producers continue:

Andrew has written a number of internationally bestselling crime novels such as True Crime, later adapted for a film directed and starring Clint Eastwood and Don’t Say A Word which starred Michael Douglas. As a screenwriter, Klavan wrote A Shock to the System, which starred Michael Caine, and One Missed Call, starring Ed Burns and Shannyn Sossamon. He was also the screenwriter for 2013’s bestselling and Appy Award- winning iOS movie app Haunting Melisssa, and its sequel Haunting Melissa 2: Dark Hearts, due out later this year.

Andrew said Gosnell’s story was a great material for a compelling true crime drama. “I’ve been a crime writer all my life and I know a great crime story when I hear one. What really grabbed me about this is that, here you have the worst serial killer in American history — the banality of evil made flesh — and yet there’s this powerful bureaucratic inertia that provides him cover… Even when he’s been discovered, there’s this real reluctance to bring the truth to the public. The Gosnell murders were an inconvenient truth that no one wanted to tell it. So while on the one hand, you have that evil… you also have the quiet, dogged courage of the investigators and journalists who were not afraid to get the story, who wouldn’t let it go. That’s the stuff great stories are made of.”

In a lengthy writing career Klavan has been nominated for the Mystery Writers of America’s Edgar Award five times and has won twice. He has recently published a bestselling series of thriller novels for young adults, The Homelanders, and his YA novel If We Survive was nominated for an International Thriller Writers Award. His latest novel for adults, Werewolf Cop, is due out next spring.

His essays and op-eds on politics, religion, movies and literature have appeared in the Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Washington Post, The LA Times, and elsewhere. His 2008 WSJ op-ed “What Bush and Batman Have in Common,” topped the Technorati list as the most-read online piece of the day. He has also produced several popular political satire video series, including “Klavan on the Culture,” for PJTV.com, “A Very Serious Commentary,” for Glenn Beck’s TheBlaze.com and his current series “The Revolting Truth,” for TruthRevolt.org.

We are delighted that Andrew had agreed to write the screenplay. He is unafraid of the darkest parts of this story and sees, despite all the horror perpetrated by Gosnell, hope and light in the many real heroic characters that finally ensured justice was done. He also understands that the story needs to be told in an entertaining and accessible way to reach the widest audience possible.

Kermit Gosnell is America’s least known serial killer. We want to change that and almost 27,000 of you have donated to make this happen. Andrew won’t let you down.

Besides getting the word out about this pos, I doubt anyone who’s heard about him will go see it.
I won’t, I don’t need to see abortions in 3d Imax or pay money to see anything about the left’s heroes.

May there be a spiritual awakening in America; to stop the infanticide, to stop the dependence upon government via the Welfare State and Crony Capitalism, and to stop the normalization of homosexuality.

All three threaten society and invite judgment.

May we repent of our sins, individually and corporately.

There’s a winning strategy!

Avoid funding the telling of stories about the evil done by the Left.

So you’re going to spend your money on something you already know and the left doesn’t give a rat’s Obama about and won’t see?

Sounds like a great strategy.

Yup. If we don’t support artists who make movies and write books that support our side, how will they be able to continue?

Our biggest single problem in this country is that conservatives abandoned the production of art, literature and music to progressives some decades ago.

Young people do not, for the most part, make a conscious decision to be liberal or conservative based on a careful analysis of the issues. They make a subconciouis decision based on their perception of who is admirable and who despicable.

That perception is created almost entirely by the popular media they consume in such vast quantities. It is much, much more powerful than all the biased professors and news media.

IOW, as the great Andrew Breitbart put it, politics is downstream of culture. Politics, in and of itself, can only fight an inevitably losing battle against an antagonistic culture.

Yet you think it’s a good strategy to intentionally do nothing to fight back on the cultural level.

And the question is asked...

IS .....the Obama Administration..... the proper PUNISHMENT for the abortion murders?..

Because America is indeed being punished.. where will it end?..

The country has injected itself with a fatal cocktail..
And seems to be assuming room temperature..
Murdering babies is a crime..

Andrew Klavan is an excellent choice. Top of ny list when I first read of this project.

Solid and courageous conservative as well as an excellent writer. Well worth reading.

Never said that. I said I am not going to see this movie with my money. I know what this man did, I have heard the interviews. And I don’t need to see abortion on the big screen.

If that’s your kind of entertainment then enjoy the popcorn.

Gosnell is America’s least known serial killer.

Since I consider all abortionists serial killers, I doubt he is the least known.

To my mind, the battle for the culture is MUCH more important than any election, or even a series of elections. Those who win the culture battle win elections by default.

Yet many conservatives don’t seem to even be aware that this culture war (the real one, not the political battle over social issues) is even being fought.

Here are two sides in a war. One side has all the advantages and a comprehensive strategy for victory that it is executing brilliantly.

The other side prefers to pretend the war isn’t happening, and is only surviving on cultural capital that is rapidly draining away.

Which side is going to win?

Case in point: Gay marriage. Fastest turnaround in public opinion on an issue I’ve ever seen, with resultant political victory now in state after state.

This battle wasn’t won in referenda. It was won by Will and Grace and all the other hundreds of movies and TV shows over the last 30 years with cute, lovable and funny gay characters; and evil, bigoted, unpleasant characters who disagree with their lifestyle.

If you were 25, and had never known anything else in your life, which group would you sign up with?

So you’re going to spend your money on something you already know....

It worked out well for Titanic and Shindler's List

...and the left doesn’t give a rat’s Obama about and won’t see?

They may not now but in 30 years from now when people look back in horror at this era, they will understand that there were some of us against what was happening and who were unafraid to shine a bright light on it.

Yes, I think that many of us saw that coming a long way off. One of my sisters was a fan of Will and Grace. I tried to explain my objections to her, but she didn't understand, and thought that I was being silly and unkind.
