For each of the two previous annual meetings of the Society for Neuroscience, the largest neuroscience society in the world, my research on this compound was selected as an oral presentation. That’s something of an honor and both times it was even selected as a “media hot topic” by the organizers, recognizing the importance of the research. It’s been selected once again for an oral presentation, for the third year in a row. I’m by no means a leader of my field of research, I’m a new scientist, but at these meetings I meet a lot of the top names in the field. I see what they say when the microphones aren’t on. I saw this movement against the NFL coming years ago when I was still working on my PhD.

I’m a very unusual conservative in a field filled with extremist liberals who have no particular love for American traditions or sports. At some of the more clinical conferences I’ve seen NFL physicians give talks who look like they’re just lambs being lead to the slaughter; they’re almost openly defensive in trying to make the case that they can “make the sport safe” by just adjusting the guidelines or the rules of the game. The lines of questioning they get imply a consensus is being developed that it will never be “safe enough.” I fully believe that it won’t stop there, the calls will keep coming to whittle away at the sport until it collapses. Obama’s remark that he wouldn’t let his son play football if he had a son just fits perfectly with the agenda I see being developed by the leaders in the head injury research field.

Right now they’re building up the case for getting rid of the sport by gradually nerfing it. Mark my words. Eventually it will reach a critical mass and you’ll start to see democrats openly campaigning on the basis that they will pass legislation against the NFL, Obama’s remarks were just the first warning shot.

Yes, and the hype about the World Cup coincided with his comment.

These people are unbelievably evil. They are attempting to undermine every American institution.

I can imagine the difficulties of being a conservative in your field. Thank God there are people like you. I think there will be a revolution in the sciences ultimately. Let's hope it will happen soon. Global Warming is the main front but yours and other battles are tremendously vital IMO.
