The CIC is civilian and not required to salute.

That he ran back down the stairs and shook the Marines hand seemed very respectful and as if he apologized after realizing he hadn’t returned the salute.

Isn’t a handshake worth something?

I am of the opinion that if the President has never been in the military, he should never salute. Ever. They just screw it up anyway.

Was there more to the video? Please clarify. Did Mr. Obama return to shake hands with the Marines??
