One of the clearest thinking anti-gun control writers and speakers was an English constable named Colin Greenwood. He spoke before Parliament and also was a visiting speaker at Cambridge.

He pointed out that as Britain passed more and more gun controls, each time they were accompanied by increased crime.

Before 1919, there were no gun controls at all in Britain except for one very minor one. You could buy machine guns, canons, etc. with no requirements at all.

The one legal requirement was that for handgun purchases you had to purchase a stamp at the Post Office and it was issued as routine, meaning everyone who asked for one, got one.

During that period according to inspector Greenwood, you could count all the armed robberies in the country for a year on the fingers of one hand. Some of the Western Islands of Scotland had never had a serious crime.

Now Britain has a higher rate of home burglaries than the U.S.

Thank you for the history lesson. I had never heard of him.

During the Victorian era, if Sherlock Holmes wanted to carry his “Boxer pistol”, he did not need a permit. When Sherlock asked Watson to bring along his service revolver, he just grabbed it and pocketed it.

No gun control at all and despite all the crimes Sherlock solved there were hardly any.

The 1920 gun control act was nothing but class warfare.

After four years of horrific trench warfare, Tommy was returning from France with all those captured German pistols & rifles, and the potential for armed unrest against those who had ordered the mass carnage of the Great War could not be ignored by the ruling classes.

Yes, thank you for mentioning him. I read his work in the late 1970’s. Just like here, the citizen disarmament folks in the UK were not interested in logic.

They wanted their citizens disarmed, and they used lies and tricks to make it happen.

Colin Greenwood was an honorable man. I think he has passed on.

I would point out that the UK has other crimes with much lower levels than the US. Our gun crime, gun homicide rates are a fraction of the US. Our murder rate is a quarter of the US. So swings and roundabouts.

Thilly boyth. How many times do we have to say it?

GUN CONTROL IS NOT ABOUT CRIME!
</off screaming to be heard>

It's about slavery.
