EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. - The Lithuanian ambassador to the United States made a stop at East Stroudsburg University on Wednesday to talk about his country and what's happening between Ukraine and Russia.
Ukraine is a country in conflict with Russia and as tensions continue to rise between the two, the United States is taking a stand.
President Barack Obama vowed to defend the people of Ukraine and impose more economic sanctions on Russia, but Lithuanian ambassador to the United States Zygimantas Pavilionis said the U.S. needs to provide military assistance to Ukraine in order for the country to come out on top.
He said, "This is very sad and we have to help them resist and America has to help as well." Pavilionis spoke to students at East Stroudsburg University in Monroe County.
He blamed Russian President Vladamir Putin for the recent violation of a cease-fire and attacks on Ukraine.
Pavilionis said, "He is revolting against everything we and your grandfathers created after the second world war."
The ambassador explained how Lithuania faced a similar situation in years past and recalled when Soviet tanks tried to crush the country's freedom in 1991.
He said, "I still remember the moment when I was standing in front of the Parliament, maybe one hundred thousand Lithuanians standing around the Parliament. The Parliament is a beacon of democracy for Americans and I saw the Russian tanks approaching and they stopped."
He said he has confidence in Ukraine's strength as well and he believes Ukraine will overcome any turmoil and violence that's happening in the country.
If Vlam Poopin had a lick of sense, he’d quietly withdraw, lick his political wounds, and try to forget he ever tried this Hitler-like move.
ESU is the name of the fictional “Enormous State University” that Tank McNamara is always dealing with.
