Islamic State withstands bombing campaign, plots Baghdad invasion
The Washington Times ^ | 10/5/2014 | Rowan Scarborough

The Islamic State holds just about the same number of towns in Iraq today as it did two months ago, when the U.S. began a bombing campaign to whittle down the terrorist army and support Iraqi ground troops trying to retake territory.

More troubling, analysts say, is that the Islamic State, also known by the acronyms ISIS and ISIL, is ramping up what appear to be operations designed to one day invade Baghdad.

Its objective is to take the international airport and begin conquering the capital, section by section. The Islamic State is continuing its urban attacks with car bombs, some of which have been detonated by foreign suicide bombers.

The Pentagon is not openly confident that the Iraqi Security Forces will hold Baghdad. A spokesman has declined to predict that the sprawling city will stay in government control.

So many American military killed; so many American military maimed. For what? Starting to have doubts about the Iraq invasion, but even now we lose our children in Aftganiscrap which was a righteous effort being that they supported the Taliban and al-queda.

Why are we still trying to instill western values to these savages? Don't these egotistical politicians understand like us layman that that area of the world is a lost cause? Muslims hate everyone who is not Muslim or they just hate each other if not of the same sect. Nuke 'em all and let God sort them out. Yes, I said that.

USA liberal politicians, NATO (worthless), the UN and all the other peaceniks are going to get a large population of the USA destroyed through their Chamberlain peace accord crap. Hope I'm gone before I see it happens. If still alive and mobile, I'm going hunting.

You are just starting to have doubts about being in Iraq? It was a bad idea in 2003 (and it was bad before the whole WMD thing.). Taking and holding territory in the Middle East is tough. You have to be a cruel master over there. And the US is not a cruel master.

We are reaping the result of our arrogance in “nation building.”

It was not arrogance, it was a noble goal. It is just that Islam does not allow self governance. You have to be a dictator to control these savages and we did not realize that. If we kept a reactionary force there this army would not have been able to overthrow the Iraqi army.

Pray America wakes up

I am not dissing the work that our folks did there. They are good people doing what they are told. I an suggesting that it does not take a rocket scientist to know that the thousand year battle between Islam and everyone else, AND the battles within Islam are not within the realm of something we can solve.

I am still surprised when I see Westerners being all shocked at the way these folks behave. They do not adhere to our moral code. I saw a comparison yesterday between Islam and the Bushido code of Imperial Japan in WWII. It took us a while to figure out there were not going to be a ton of JAP POWs. We are facing a similar foe today.

Do any of these think tank wonks even read history? Are they aware of different cultures in the world. I think western culture is pretty cool—but I also understand there are a few billion people who might not agree.
