Why don’t they ever report the employment rate——the number of people paying social security and income taxes?

Yesterday met 3 people who had come to US yesterday on B1 (business) visa to do 3 month contract in Silicon Valley. There are job openings but not for citizens.
I am unemployed, and more experienced and better skill set combined those 3. Only problem I am citizen.
