The classic slogan for Firestone tires was "where the rubber meets the road."
When it comes to Ebola, the rubber met the road at the Firestone rubber plantation in Harbel, Liberia.
Harbel is a company town not far from the capital city of Monrovia. It was named in 1926 after the founder of the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company, Harvey and his wife, Idabelle. Today, Firestone workers and their families make up a community of 80,000 people across the plantation.
Firestone detected its first Ebola case on March 30, when an employee's wife arrived from northern Liberia...

But, they’re just ordinary people! How could they possibly have accomplished this on their own? /s;)
The answer is that Firestone as an entity is probably far more efficient and less corrupt than the surrounding governments.

It’s the rubber.
I hear wearing rubber also protects you from rain.
IF, and that’s a BIG IF Obama, and his patheticos were truly interested in protecting American lives from the Ebola virus they would spend some time on the plantation.
Just read the comments from the npr readers. You see, Firestone is evil because the executives are better off than the workers. Really.
Private enterprise does something better than government — imagine that.
This is news to NPR viewers, indeed.
“Asked what’s needed to turn [Ebola] around, Flannery says, “More Firestones” places that have the money, resources and unwavering determination to stop Ebola.”
Notice that he did not say more government was needed.
I wonder how many NPR listeners, self described the most intelligent listeners in the universe because all their friends listen to NPR, knew rubber is an agricultural product. I wonder if NPR listeners are demanding Firestone hire more white people in Liberia? There’s not much diversity.
Rubber protects you from kids, too.
Free market solutions are always best
Relatively simple public health measures can control Ebola, if they are used.
Which is why all the hype is contrived, imho. The Puppet actually told the truth (for once?) yesterday when he said the threat to the US from Ebola was 'extremely low'. They want the panic. A few arriving here sick and infecting a few others feeds it. They'll use those measures post-headlines when it suits them to control it. .02
Interesting article, outstanding success. They quarantined everyone exposed, they had a high level of caregiver protection because of protective suits and protective protocols that already existed due to their industrial procedures.
“Just read the comments from the npr readers.”
Me too. I’ve rarely seen a discourse that pathetic, basically just a bunch of bickering by a large number of ignorant morons. I’m guessing they’re indicative of NPR’s general listernship.
Government sucks.

The Italian Mafia is less corrupt than the 'surrounding governments'....
Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
