I am a Muslim, but I wasn't always. I converted to Islam in November 2001, two months after 9/11.
I was 21 and living in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. It was a bad time to be a Muslim. But after four years of studying, poking and prodding at world religions and their adherents, I decided to take the plunge.
I am the product of a Creole Catholic and an Irish atheist. I grew up Catholic, then was agnostic, now I'm Muslim.
My journey to Islam began when I was about 15 years old in Mass and had questions about my faith. The answers from teachers and clergymen -- don't worry your pretty little head about it -- didn't satisfy me.
So I did what any red-blooded American would do: the opposite. I worried about it. For many years. I questioned the nature of religion, man and the universe.
After questioning everything I was taught to be true and digging through rhetoric, history and dogma, I found out about this strange thing called Islam. I learned that Islam is neither a culture nor a cult, nor could it be represented by one part of the world. I came to realize Islam is a world religion that teaches tolerance, justice and honor and promotes patience, modesty and balance.

Her faith isn’t very strong or it’s mental illness because the historical aspect leads to this so called religion as being very violent. Heads exploding.

I understand her “journey.”
She lived a life of a post-modern, relativist, secular, leftist, feminist, materialist, cynic. Its clear to me she spent her life being opposed to everything “traditional” and everything American she could think of. Living as nihilist is exhausting. She was clearly alone as well as few men want to go near an ardent feminist.
So she chose Islam. The rigidity of the “faith” was a change, and she could still hate both modern, and traditional, America at the same time. Doesn’t need that much change in her personality after all. Her genuflections to “rationality” of Islam is pure bunkum and a fiction in her own mind.
True Believers for any cause are scary.
This statement is true but it is in spit of their religion, not because of it.
It’s about as crazy as a Jew registering as a Nazi after WW2 and proclaiming Hitler to not be a proper Nazi as the tenets of National Socialism don’t support ethnic slaughter.
ISIS is more like Mohammed than any other Muslim organization since. That she foolishly believes every bit of revisionist history that the Muslim conquerers made up about the glory of their caliphate reflects poorly on her intellect.
