Damn fascinating reading, Thank you!

Always was amazed when I first read that the Hind had to taxi to take off.

But what did i know about helo ops in hot weather, until I was in a Bell with too many souls at Ft Irwin and the pilot had to drag along the ground to get some airspeed?

Had actually experienced low lift many years before, but being a lowly gunner listening in on intercom, had no idea what was being discussed.................

In RVN when density altitude was really high, we had to make verrrry shallow takeoff runs while watching out for main rotor RPM bleedoff plus overtorque.

A normal max performance takeoff requires calculating available power plus hovering to the rear of a confined area to minimize takeoff angle.

Now, that was in single engine Hueys. Years later I took my one & only ride in a UH-60 Blackhawk, from a confined area in the woods. That motherbear didn’t need no stinkin’ pretakeoff checks. They just pulled pitch on those twin engines & WHOOSH we were out of there!
