I had to laugh at West's assertion (that) there are prophetic (he must have meant pathetic) Islamic figures who argue for liberties, for tolerance, for equality -- beginning with Malcolm X
There's a whole tradition within Islam that argues for rights, tolerance and equality," West said..
Beginning with Malcolm X?. In a history of brutality and savagery that spans 1400 years, to say that it's only been fifty years since there's been a whole tradition within Islam that argues for rights, tolerance and equality is not saying very much.... Whole tradition?????!!!.
What whole tradition? When? Where?
Secondly, while ISIS follows the "Terrorist Manual" The K-ran, to the letter, to the same degree of savagery and inhumanity as its author, Mad, Malevolent, Mo', there is nothing in the Bible suggesting lynching as being part of any Christian ritual. Lynching is certainly not a Christian ritual to any degree or sort. A ridiculous analogy, if ever there was one.
False moral equivalency. Killing members of other religions because of their religion is a core belief of mohammedanism. It is part of its fundamental essence. Christianity has no such core belief and no such essence. They are different in kind.
One gets the strong sense that Mr. Cornel West already dislikes Christianity and already approves of Islam including ISIS, so why does his false equivalency driven by personal bias get any press whatsoever?
He’s just making a fairly simplistic attempt at manipulating the uninformed.
How about judging Islam by:
Iranian hostage taking
Marine Barrack bombing 1983
Achille Lauro hijacking
World Trade Center bombing 1993
Khobar Towers bombing
USS Cole
9/11
Madrid train, London Underground, Boston Marathon, etc ad nausium
True. But you just can't say that there is nothing in the Bible that justifies a lot of what ISIS is doing.
The laws of war in the OT are if anything even more harsh than those of Islam. As are its rules for taking slaves, including sex slaves, from the captives.
Also, the Law of Moses prescribes the death penalty for apostasy, just like Islam. While today's orthodox Jews no longer enforce this in a literal sense, many of them hold a funeral for a family member who apostasizes and consider them henceforth dead.
The point is that basic Koranic Islam is in many ways very similar to basic OT Judaism. Judaism has moved beyond this savagery, and Christianity never was there. The problem is that Islam has NOT moved beyond this literal interpretation of its Holy Books. Given its emphasis on the literal truth of those Books, I'm not sure it can.
Sounds like West needs to take the time to read the Koran.
Every time Brother Kernel opens his mouth, he gets dumber.
