Yet, Maher and West did come together on one point: blaming America for its hand in exasperating the problem.

It is exasperating to see that the author seemingly does not understand the difference between "exasperating" and "exacerbating".

(Yes, there is an argument to be made that an archaic usage of 'exasperating' might have a meaning similar to that of 'exacerbating', but that argument would be a losing one.)

Good catch. Using exasperating does not make sense at all. It is obvious that the author meant to use a verb in the sentence, exacerbating, but due to his lack of proficiency in English used exasperating (an adjective) instead.
