Oh there are some that deserve the title. But fewer by the year. On open book tests, the modern method is simply take the question, google the answer and no book need be cracked open to begin with. I’ve seen it happen. And the teachers are fine with it.
Because they got their degree the same way.
Look, both my girls just graduated from college, one from Utah State and the other from Stanford. They never saw such a thing even once. For the latter, her upper division courses didn't even have textbooks because the science moves too fast for one to be relevant. What you describe happens in "science" classes for non-technical majors, but not in core courses for science degree programs anywhere of which I am aware.
