I have mixed feelings on this. I think quarantines are generally a good idea with diseases like this. But we should trust knowledgeable people with a basis in science instead of hysteria spread by the mainstream media. Also, just because 1 dumb@ass does something stupid is not a reason to act against everyone.

I gotta side with the nurse on this. The tests came back negative and she showed no signs. She didn’t fit the CDC criteria. She knew the precautions she took and was knowledgeable about the disease. The checker at the airport didn’t have a clue when they gave the initial test. It was proved to be a false test. That nurse really doesn’t wanna die either. And there was no law in place that allowed her detainment. That is my biggest sticking point. Just because Chris Christie says detain her in a tent in a Jersey parking lot isn’t good enough reason for me. It has no basis in law. And blindly surrendering rights to an authority with no legal basis is a really bad idea.

If Jersey wants to do that, let them pass a well defined quarantine law. Not just snatch people on Chris Christie’s say so.

“If Jersey wants to do that, let them pass a well defined quarantine law. Not just snatch people on Chris Christie’s say so.”

N.J. Stat. § 26:4-2 Updated in 2005

Authority. In order to prevent the spread of disease, the state department of health, and the local boards of health within their respective jurisdictions and subject to the state sanitary code, shall have power to maintain and enforce proper and sufficient quarantine, wherever deemed necessary.

Sounds clear cut to me. They already have the power to do what they DEEM necessary.
