Politics 2014 Election McConnell: No Shutdowns, No Full Obamacare Repeal
Jay Newton-Small/Hazard, KY @JNSmall

Sen. Mitch McConnell was giddy... Kentuckian... TIMEs interview ...
Notably, a full repeal of Obamacare was not on his mind...
...
... get America back to work ... Keystone XL pipeline ... medical device tax ... 40-hour work week ... individual mandate ... bipartisan majority in the Senate
... agree on with the President ... comprehensive tax reform and trade agreements
... international trade
... nuclear option? ...well discuss that...
...
... immigration reform? Were going to discuss...
What if ... executive action ... immigration? ... funding process. ... a budget ... appropriations bills.
... a government shutdown? ... you re-pass it.
... possibility of a government shutdown?
No. There is no possibility of a government shutdown. Remember me? Im the guy that gets us out of government shutdowns. (He laughs.)
...
...
So, in 2016, whats your top priority?
Well, itll be to keep the majority, of course.

MOST elected officials stnd for only one thing - re-election. They don’t want to govern, they want status quo.
That’s where libs win, they actually enact their policies even if they are bad and even if voters repudiate them and elect the GOP, who do NOTHING.
I for one agree with you. Keep the good parts and get rid of the at bad parts at least for now. If we capture the presidency in 16 we can talk about repeal.
Not enough votes to override. Not even close.
I mentioned on another thread, Corporate tax rates need to be slashed, else jobs will continue to flee the US.
“Fixing” is the wrong term to use, IMHO. See my post directly above yours.
The goal should be to hammer on certain key weaknesses that are incredibly unpopular (individual mandate), and collapse it in a controlled manner.
Same outcome as a full repeal, much more likely to happen (survive a veto), and clearly documents the failings of socialized medicine. It helps advance, strategically, a long-term Conservative advancement.
But it takes longer, isn’t as confrontational and therefore isn’t as satisfying.
The Dems take the long view of politics. Obamacare was the result of decades of planning and activism. Conservatives need to start thinking and operating along the same lines.
We must pressure our Tea Party and other patriotic Congress Men and Women to force the RINOs into subservience. The RINOs must be subjugated!
That's like putting duct tape on the lid of a vampire's coffin.
IMHO, I think there is a very real chance for Senate Majority Leader Cruz.
Dear Mitch, the only Immigration Reform needed at this point is Finishing the Border Fence. NOTHING UNTIL THAT IS DONE! Only after that will we consider what to do with all the illegals with which Obama has swamped our once great country.
Absolute music to my ears! Prayers up for a Majority Leader Cruz!
Time for Ted Cruz
I completely agree, but we need to act.
China now out-produces America.
America really needs to do something, to bring back our own industry.
We need to do something. Now. Not just talk.
America needs jobs. Millions of new jobs. Right here.
GOP please stand up, for America.
Whatever....I like McConnell and always have. Smart guy. Good conservative.
Getting rid of the individual mandate is a poison pill thats just as good as a full repeal (which will be vetoed), just takes a little longer and really cements in place the evidence that socialized medicine doesnt work by inflicting some pain (thinknof it as a good spanking for Dem-leaning voters) So may actually be more beneficial in the long term as a deterrent against trying something like this again.
Obamacare will never collapse of it’s own weight. The employer mandate will kick in and millions will get dumped into the exchanges. Those folks will not have employer policies to fall back on. The employer health insurance market will not exist for a huge chunk of the work force. Then the mantra will be “we have to do something” to help.
What you fail to understand is the GOPe and their big donors love the idea of socialized medicine for the proles. Tip toeing around the issue is best way to guarantee it will be with us forever.
Honestly, I would rather of had grimes win given the outcome of the rest of the senate races.
The government is not responsible for providing people with jobs or healthcare; indeed they are not even permitted to perform either of these functions based on their limited powers under our Constitution given the Founder’s intent— providing for yourself and your family is YOUR responsibility, no one elses.
Yeah, they ARE sad.
Because we/America now
EXPECT/S THEM TO DO SOMETHING.
