Laylah Petersen was sitting on her grandfather's lap Thursday evening when two people approached the house and fired at it numerous times, with one bullet piercing a wall and striking the girl in the head, police said.
The window was scarred with five bullet holes. Four more could be seen in the siding above the window and another below it.
"She was our wild child; she was full of life," said Laylah's aunt, Amanda Legler. "Just last week we went trick-or-treating and she told me Ti-Ti Manna, I love you more than science. That was just Laylah, she was so bizarre and so cute. She was just the happiest child you'll ever meet."
Her family called for anyone with information to come forward.
"I cannot rest until they find who did this to our baby," said another aunt, Jocelyn Petersen. "This is more than just a 5-year-old. She was somebody's granddaughter, she was a niece, she was like an angel, and now she's a real life angel, but it was too soon. ... We need justice for Laylah." 'A heinous crime'
Police have described the shooting as targeted because gunfire was only found on that home, and no others. In such cases, there is the possibility that the shooters had the wrong house.
"It was targeted because the house itself was hit by all 12 shots that we believe were fired," Raap said. "As far as motive or who inside the house was targeted, we don't have that yet."
"We implore the public to come forward with information," Lauder said. A good neighborhood
Anyone with information is asked to call Milwaukee police at 935-7360 or the ATF at (800) ATF-GUNS.

So sad.
What will Obama do about it? NOTHING!
His girls are always safe and secure, with Secret Service agents watching over them.
This story breaks my heart.
We learn to expect that we will bur our parents, that is our past.
No one should ever have to bury their children!
Well, they’re not any of Holder’s people so I expect their case will go to the bottom of the pile.
“I love you more than science.”
I love that. Poor child, I miss her even though I never met her.
But, you know, it wasn’t a white person who killed her, so no one will care.
RIP little one.
My deepest condolences to the family and my heartfelt prayers for them and their little girl.
