Christian students at a Colorado public high school were told they could no longer meet to pray, sing religious songs or discuss religious topics during free time – because such activity violated the U.S. Constitution, a lawsuit filed in federal court alleges.
Chase Windebank is a senior at Pine Creek High School in Colorado Springs. Three years ago he started meeting together informally with his classmates for prayer and religious fellowship. The young people would meet in an unoccupied choir room to sing songs like “Amazing Grace” and discuss the issues of the day from a religious perspective.
But all that changed on Sept. 29th when Chase was summoned to the office of Assistant Principal James Lucas.
“He was told that he could no longer pray with his fellow students during free time because of the separation of church and state,” said Jeremy Tedesco, an attorney representing the teenager. …

I’m glad to see lawsuits pop up over these things. All it takes is one complainer to make the schools infringe on the rights of everyone else over the fear of lawsuits. It’s about time to fight fire with fire. Good for them.

“NO, my praying DOES NOT violate “Separation of Church and State”!
The concept does not exist in the Constitution.
BUT, the FREE EXERCISE CLAUSE of the 1st Amendment DOES protect my right to pray!
Okay, kids. Time to practice some civil disobedience.
Sounds like there should have been sin-ins and pray ins every day. Let then start the mass suspensions and lose the funding that goes with attendance; qne the proliferating lawsuits that would follow.

The Constitution is meant to prevent the GOVERNMENT from establishing a single religious viewpoint.
If the SCHOOL was the one MANDATING the prayers, then that would violate the Constitution.
NOTHING the students (who are not the government in this instance) do, can violate the Constitution (although they
may violate good order, which the school has to maintain).
The only religion allowed in public schools is Marxism. Sounds like some teachers are mad about the election.
Pray America is waking
If any public school (or any public building) anywhere in the US allows a muslim prayer room or accommodations, then the school boards have no standing to deny this
Or the same silly made-up rule about “separating church and state” needs to apply to all. It’s called equal protections
If I had a child going to school there, I will pull him/her out immediately and encourage everyone else to do the same.
It seems that ignorance is a job-requirement for employment in American public schools. There is black-letter law establishing the right of private prayer in public schools, provided it does not disrupt classes, and of students to organize religious clubs.
Presumably once the district superintendent has a brief laying out the relevant precedents, whichever nitwit did this, the assistant principal or someone up the chain of command from him, will get slapped down and an actual lawsuit will be unnecessary.

I'd sue the hell out of the school.
To me it sounds like every teacher enforcing this needs to be fired. Would they prohibit little Hasan from using his prayer rug too?
This is exactly why I homeschool. Not only are my children free to sing to Jesus, they also aren’t exposed to the other poison that publik skools feed their detainees year round.
