As an ardent social conservative, I think that Santorum has more street cred than Huckabee. There are also several conservatives with social conservative bona fides who would make better candidates, such as Cruz, Pence, Palin, and Jindal.

Any wannabe who lost the last elective seat is not going to win the nomination for the presidency. They are, however, if conservative or pseudo-conservative, likely to siphon enough votes to ensure that the GOPelite's preference wins the nomination.

It comes down to this:

Do you want to win or do you want another bunch of also-rans who will only be footnotes in the Annals of Republican Presidential Primaries?
