Earthquake in Kansas and Oklahoma
11/12/2014

Strong, pronounced shaking felt in Wichita. Likely felt in Tulsa, OKC, and probably as far away as Kansas City

It was pretty mild here, but I did feel a little movement and noticed the monitors on my desk shake. I’m out in Creek county.

I wonder what type of terror the people visiting the “Salt Mine Museum” in Hutchinson experienced.

That could not have been fun.

Maybe that’s what’s got the dog all worked up. I didn’t feel anything though (Olathe).

In Wichita it was a sharp jolt, then a bit of a rolling motion. The entire building rattled and creaked.

Pretty much.

Had a 4.2 and I laughed really hard.

My buddy wanted to know why I thought that was so funny.

“Because, if I were upstairs, I would have totally felt that one” I laughingly said.

He started laughing and agreed. Out here in Earthquake country, nothing fazez us.

Could totally be worse.

As a single, 51 year old man, if I were pregnant, I’d be looking at another mouth to feed.

Now, he thinks I’m just stupid.

LOL

I felt it too, in northeast Wichita. There have been quite a few earthquakes in Kansas/Oklahoma over the past year or so, but I didn't need the USGS to tell me this was the most powerful one yet.

The are saying it was a 4.8. The most powerful earthquake ever recorded in Kansas was at 5.1, striking Manhatten in 1867.

I’m in Ponca City (north central OK) and I felt that one!
It was a 4.8 in southern Kansas less than an hour ago.

Last one we felt here in PC was that 5+ in OKC over a year or 2 ago.
