Yes.

Of course, the 'tax exemption' was a fictional creation of Lyndon B. Johnson.

The church leaders of the era should have mobized their congregations to squash that abomination.

The church does not answer to the state.

Current day churches need to shed the 501c3 nonsense and speak out.

It sounds like a lot of trouble for a secret IRS agent to go to. They are going to have people get divinity degrees? Or are they propositioning existing priests and ministers? Or are they just lying about being clergy? What do big church denominations think about this? I’d think this would go over like a lead balloon to entities as diverse as the Roman Catholic Church and the Southern Baptist Convention.

This law added a new incentive to the tax law. Before that, they did not have donor tax deductibility.
