Bob McCulloch’s pathetic prosecution of Darren Wilson
The Washington Post ^ | November 25, 2014 | Dana Milbank

Ferguson reminds us that we still have a race problem in America. But the face of this problem is not Darren Wilson’s. It’s Bob McCulloch’s.

Wilson, the Missouri police officer who shot and killed an unarmed black teenager, is the target of most public ire. But no responsible person thought Wilson’s killing of Michael Brown was premeditated. Even if prosecutors tried him on lesser charges of involuntary manslaughter, they might well have come up empty – and most people would have accepted that result of a fair trial.

What causes the outrage, and the despair, is the joke of a grand-jury proceeding run under the auspices of McCulloch, the St. Louis County prosecutor. In September, I wrote that it appeared he wasn’t even trying to get an indictment; he had a long record of protecting police in such cases, and his decision not to recommend a specific charge to the grand jury essentially guaranteed there would be no indictment.

When McCulloch announced the inevitable result Monday night, he prefaced it by blaming the press and social media for whipping up emotions in the case with inaccurate information. He went on to ridicule witnesses who had given inconsistent testimony. He hid behind the grand jurors, as if he hadn’t orchestrated their decision with the finesse of conductor Christoph Eschenbach: “Anyone suggesting that somehow it’s just not a full and fair process is just unfair to these people” who “gave up their lives” to deliberate.....

Why would a Prosecutor vigorously prosecute an innocent man?

Uh.....hello?

"Even if prosecutors tried him on lesser charges of involuntary manslaughter, they might well have come up empty – and most people would have accepted that result of a fair trial."

If the prosecutor didn't think he had nearly sufficient evidence to get a conviction it would have been unethical to push for an involuntary manslaughter indictment. And the Trayvon case clearly shows that had Wilson been charged and aquitted that most people would NOT have accepted it and would have rioted even worse.

No kidding.

McCulloch took himself off the case immediately and handed it off to 2 assistant prosecutors who gave evidence to the grand jury for investigation.

There was no prosecution.

Can I ask a stupid question?

Even if you are liberal and think that there are still vestiges of racism and all that, isn’t it just possible that the facts of this case just didn’t warrant an indictment for murder???

Liberals and race baiters jumped all over this case and Zimmerman’s case, to try to prove that black people are discriminated against, and that racists shoot black men for no reason.

It sounds to me like the liberals and race baiters pick very poor cases, to make the case that young black men are shot by racist white cops or white Hispanic neighborhood watch people, all for no reason at All.

“Even if prosecutors tried him on lesser charges of involuntary manslaughter, they might well have come up empty – and most people would have accepted that result of a fair trial.”

They actually did try him on the lesser charges. Look it up. He was charged with 1st degree down through involuntary manslaughter. Just like everyone always. I prefer liberal lies to have at least a basis in truth rather than just regurgitating the talking point without any attempt to match it to the readily available facts.

He almost certainly could have secured an indictment on a lesser charge simply by requesting it...

This is Monday morning quarterback crap. If he had charged Wilson with "unsafe discharge of a firearm", does this idiot think the riots would have been lessened if he won on that charge? Nope...the rioters simply want free stuff without any work on their part and the verdict would have had no impact on the outcome. Does anyone really think the behavior of the thugs in Ferguson would have been different if the decision had been to indict? Indeed, they would likely have been more PO'ed because the reason for their free shopping spree would have been removed.

It's time to start taking pictures and putting thugs into jail.

The race problem we have in America are the race baiters and hustlers...like this article...stoking flames where they should no exist.

In Ferguson, a big, brutal, criminal thug robbed a store, then assaulted and officer who tried to question him, and that officer ultimately had to shoot the thug in defense of his own life.

That has nothing to do with race.

Here's my photo Album and description of what is happening in Ferguson and why.

Yeah, asking Blacks to testify to what they saw, and realizing they confirmed the officer’s report is certainly a terrible way to go about things.

If you’re an idiot, and trying to game the system.

The Washington Post and the New York Times have sure come down hard on the side of evil.

This is an unholy alliance of communists and race hustlers conspiring to destabilize the USA

The communists have used American blacks as their shock troops since the 40’s

It’s bizarre that it’s not even mentioned.

“with the finesse of conductor Christoph Eschenbach”

MITJM, but if you have to describe the example that you’re using as an example, is it that effective an example?
