Canada's Northwest Territories, including its Arctic islands and the adjacent Beaufort Sea, hold more than 1.2 billion barrels of crude oil and 16.4 trillion cubic feet of marketable natural gas, the National Energy Board (NEB) said on Tuesday.
The NEB, the industry regulator, also estimated the region holds 53.3 million barrels of natural gas liquids.
The crude oil total is minor compared with the U.S. Energy Information Administration's estimate of Canada's total proved reserves of 173.11 billion barrels, but it is nearly 25 percent of the EIA's estimate of the country's natural gas reserves of 68.17 trillion cubic feet.

There will be a lot of mentally challenged environmentalists who will hate these news and the report. As many of them think and dream that this world should run on wind and sunshine.

Interest in oil and gas drilling in the Arctic is intensifying as the polar region warms up and sea ice retreats Oops. Oh well, it is rooters.

Canada is the second largest country in the world in terms of area. Only Russia is larger. Canada also has the largest surface area of water in the world and that's even subtracting the U.S. portion of the Great Lakes.
So a lot of water resides in Canada.
Canadians don't like to hear this but I consider Canada our 51st state. You have Alaska up top and the lower 48 down below. There are some slight cultural differences in Canada but no more than those you might encounter going from New York City to Chattanooga, Tennessee.
When you go to Toronto or Winnipeg or even Montreal, it looks and feels like any other American big city. When you get out to the plains, it's not much different than the Dakotas. Vancouver might as well be Seattle. A lot of coastal Canada is like Maine and the upper interior not much different than Alaska.

And most importantly, I TRUST Canada, FAR more than any Saudi Prince, any Muslim Caliphate, or any Russian hell-bent on restoring its former glory.
Hell, on half of the days ending with a "y", I trust them more than I trust our own government.

Exactly. I probably should have been clearer on that point. I feel so good about having Canada as a neighbor to the north that I consider them our 51st state - meant as a compliment, even though some Canadians take issue when I say that.

Hmmm, the Northwest Territories. Does anyone remember the name of Dudley Do-Right’s horse?

How about Canada considers the U.S. as a fourth territory?
